Your competitor would be living in the same affluent or non-affluent district.
Pay to Play is wrong on all levels.
If you donate any money to anyone or any organization involving politics in a particular city/county/state...You shouldn't be able to receive any work from these entities.
That solves the problem. It would be an even playing field for all vendors.
If XYZ Lawn Mowing feels so strongly for Mayor Q...then they can donate...but they'll never get any business from that city.Robhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06347593167569748403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6911830315140428673.post-6494093507631546732011-10-04T17:18:48.199-04:002011-10-04T17:18:48.199-04:00I would like to address one of the comments made a...I would like to address one of the comments made above about Pay for Play legislation. The author assumes that since a Politician opposes the ordinance they must be crooked and must be receiving kickbacks. This is very unfair and I think we all should look at both sides of the coin. . . and in all fairness those that opposed last night, opposed the next step in the process for now, preferring more time to review, understand and tweak the ordinance. Of course they could oppose it moving forward also.

When a Politician is fundraising, if he/she resides in an affluent district or has affluent friends it is much easier for them to raise money then it is for a Politician from an area which is more economically challenged. Or for a Politician whose constituents (and friends) are more economically challenged. Some of these candidates have to rely on contributions from vendors in order to compete.

Do I like it? No, I do not. Do I blame them? No, I do not. I am sure that many of us would do the same if we were in a similar situation.

The problem with these type of contributions is accurately explained in Councilman's Storch's blog. In his blog he refers to them as the "invisible tax". It is worth a look. The Councilman and I may differ at times but I fully support him in this endeavor.

What the Councilman's blog does not do is explain the legislation in detail, (maybe he who do this moving forward). The proposed legislation still allows contributions from Vendors but limits the amounts. Therefore hopefully limiting the influence and limiting the "invisible tax". But at the same time allowing candidates some opportunity to compete.

I feel, (I hope), that there can be a compromise on this legislation and that both sides will support it. Either way the legislation must be put up for a vote.

jim spearAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6911830315140428673.post-58518664845034679792011-10-04T12:50:55.668-04:002011-10-04T12:50:55.668-04:00what in the world does "the mayor should just...what in the world does "the mayor should just apologize and say she won't do it anymore" suppose to mean. if she wasn't doing wrong in the beginning, there would be no need for her to apologize for doing right. why do these people keep getting elected? it's obvious they are in way over their heads when they can't seem to comprehend the difference between right and wrong.janenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6911830315140428673.post-23055661061968079002011-10-04T11:18:13.747-04:002011-10-04T11:18:13.747-04:00I don't think Reid, Rivers, and Greaves can lo...I don't think Reid, Rivers, and Greaves can look themselves in the mirror. They are so outted as the mayor's lackeys and henchmen. I wonder if they had anything to do with this BLS deal. I also wonder why they oppose "pay-to-play" so much and how much money do they get in kickbacks. Next election I'm sure I'll remind the voters how crooked they are and how they too the public to the cleaners right beside Shady Sharonda.Bobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02322180868990260305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6911830315140428673.post-65798433761189573572011-10-04T10:18:43.497-04:002011-10-04T10:18:43.497-04:00Hi Bernice,
