Storch, Greaves Win Primary

Incumbent Second Ward Councilman Cory Storch will be on the November ballot seeking a third four-year term, after primary voters chose him over two-time challenger James "Tony" Rucker.

Rucker had the endorsement of Democratic Party Chairman Jerry Green, while Storch ran on the New Democrats line. In the First and Fourth Ward at-large race, appointee Vera Greaves won on the party line over New Democrat Delois "Dee" Dameron. Barring any independents that filed Tuesday, Greaves will run unopposed in the November 8 general election. Storch will face a challenge from Republican William Michelson.

(Note: I got sick Tuesday evening and could not do the usual Election Night chores such as getting quotes, etc.)

On Monday, results will be certified by Union County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi and newly-elected Democratic City Committee members will select a chairman for the next two years.

Unofficial vote totals Tuesday were 609 for Storch and 453 for Rucker, 599 for Greaves and 322 for Dameron.

In a trend that has been seen for at least the past three Assembly elections, incumbent Assemblyman Jerry Green, also the Plainfield Democratic Party Chairman, received 1,491 city votes while his running mate, incumbent Assemblywoman Linda Stender of Fanwood, received 1,770 votes in Green's hometown.

  1. Thank you for the numbers Bernice!

Just goes to show you that Mr. Green can be beaten in the general election, considering Linda Stender received considerably more votes in Green's hometown. We cannot afford to have Mr. Green's status quo run this City any more. Let's work to get him out, for the sake of all Plainfielders.

I hope Ms. Dameron will consider running as an independent against Ms. Greaves.

It's evident that the 1/4 ward contest was a popularity contest backed by the Green machine. Ms. Greaves may have looked very good on paper, in the glossy mailers received by her constiuents; however, anyone who attended the candidate's forum or has heard Ms. Greaves make comments at Council meetings, can easily determine that Ms. Greaves doesn't know anything about city government, how it runs, or what to do with it. She can barely articulate her thoughts.

I hope that the residents of the 1/4 ward wake up and realize that Ms. Greaves may truly be a good person and a wonderful individual to call neighbor, but that does not qualify her to participate in the operation of our City.

  2. @ Keeping it Real. Dameron cannot run as an independent this cycle.

I'd like to see how many Plainfielders can work towards getting rid of Green. How many of you would be willing to put aside voting for party rather than the person and vote for Joan Van Pelt?

  7. People cannot just vote against, Jerry, they Must vote for Joan, otherwise, Jerry still gets in.

Wouldn't it be so sweet if Jerry lost in Plainfield?

Actually, the numbers I saw in some of the first ward districts, Jerry had the least number of votes - by at least 10. Come on - let's get the bum out.

  8. YEP I SAID IT...you took my line !! LOL

No worries. It's for a good cause. Jerry Green and Sharon Robinson-Briggs are dead weights around the neck of the city.

All intelligent Democrats, Republicans and Independents should actively join together to rid ourselves of the bile inducing duo...

  9. You know that even if you vote JG out of the Assembly, he will still be the leader of the Dem party in Plainfield. The only thing that will change is he will have MORE time to spend here.
Be careful what you wish for.

  10. @ 3:33PM -

Let's start with this election then we can work on the City Committee. You shouldn't feel as though we should not get him out of the Assembly because he will spend more time in Plainfield -he lives in Plainfield. Believe me I (and others) can live with that for another two years if it meant him losing to Joan Van Pelt.

He needs to be EMBARRASSED in front of his First and Fourth Ward followers.

I wanna see that Slimeball out of office AND he needs to GO . . . N O W !!!

  12. I too am a registered Democrat and will gladly vote against Green. I might add I could not press the buttons in the A column at all during the primary because his name was on that side. It is time to get him out. I was actually thinking of helping in the campaign of whoever his opponent is and that is before I read here who it is.
