Two Seats, Three Filers for Each

Six people met the 4 p.m. deadline to file for City Council seats today.

For the Third Ward seat, filers were incumbent Democrat Adrian Mapp for the Regular Democratic Organization of Union County; Rasheed Abdul-Haqq, running as a Democrat with the slogan, "Progressive Leadership, Better Government; and Randy Bullock for the Regular Organization Republican of Union County.

For the Citywide at-large seat, the Rev. Tracey Brown is the candidate of the Regular Democratic Organization of Union County; Veronica Taylor is running with the slogan, "Democrats for Roni" and William F. Amirault is the choice of the Regular Organization Republican of Union County.

The lineup means there will be a Democratic primary in June. Republicans will be on the ballot in November, along with the Democratic primary winners and any independent candidates who file on Primary Day, June 5.

Republicans reorganize this year, selecting a chairman and a slate of officers and ward leaders for the next two years. Ten candidates filed for Republican committee seats today. The Republican municipal reorganization will take place on the Monday after the primary.

  2. What a pair, Tracey Brown, who as a PMUA commissioner steals healthcare benefits in violation of municipal ordinance and the PMUA bylaws, and Adrian Mapp who votes to enrich Malcolm Dunn through an illegal job training contract. Dunn's Incubator lies about who its president is on its bid proposal and the signed contract, but this doesn't phase Mapp one bit. He votes to rifle another Federal grant to make good on paying off the illegal contract, and then rewards the lies and deceit by putting Dunn on the PMUA Board. Dunn's first few actions are to subvert an ongoing arbitration process and award PMUA's quitting executives with a cool $1 million settlement. Of course, the Rev. Tracey Brown missed that vote.

Come on Plainfield, let's get with it. These two characters are more professional politicians than anything else. They will take whatever you give them, and then try to take even more.

Neither are to be trusted, and it's time to put an end to their political careers and say no to the rusty machine that's been running city government for so many years.

  3. Thanks Bernice for the report! It's encouraging to see what looks like a more democratic run for the council seats. Now we just have to wait until June to find out who the independent, and BOE, candidates will be. I am hoping for a clean campaing that focuses on Plainfield's issues and not personalities. Good luck to all candidates!

I was disgusted by the GOPs sloagan
    "DONT RE-NIG IN 2012"
It appears that the GOP Republicans are cashing in on bumper stickers with this racist remark about President Obama.

This is not going to help these Republican candidates in our local campaign

I would like to hear an explanation for this
    trashy bumper sticker.
Has the Republican party become so powerless that it has to revert to race card politics of yesteryear?

  5. Tracey Brown??? I wouldn't vote her in if she was the last person in Plainfield. She is a commissioner on the PMUA and hasn't done a thing to better the PMUA's rates. In fact she has full benefits in addition to her handsome stipend.

  6. I can't see voting for Tracey Brown. She may be a minister, but she's as shady as Sharon and not a good choice. Too bad for the people of Planfield.

  7. I am waiting for an explanation of the bumper sticker "Don't RE-NIG in 2012."

Please give us an educated reason for this slogan.

Please inform us about any scandal involving Tracey Brown in the last ten years.

Thanks Bernice for your tenacity in exposing what is wrong with Plainfield.

    1. Your post is wrong on three counts. 1. It is not up to me to explain that bumper sticker, it is up to whomever created it. 2. I don't do scandal-mongering nor am I taking anyone's side in the primary. 3. I would like to think that my blog looks at both sides of Plainfield, the good and that which needs improvement.

  8. @7:29 a.m.: Obviously you have a computer so you just as well could have Googled that sticker and found out the site that sells it shut down in mid-March.

By repeating it, you are in effect keeping it in the public eye. Why not join the local Obama re-election campaign if you want to do something pro-active instead of reactive?
