One More Day

I have been covering Plainfield elections for about 30 years now and the days before an election still make me queasy. Please, voters, look past the drama and decide for yourself who is best suited to serve four years as a legislator. The main duties of a City Council member are to make laws and have the final say on the city budget, after departmental requests are reviewed and possibly modified by the administration.

Generally, this means council members must learn to understand municipal government and the city's responsibilities and interaction relative to county and state government, especially the Local Finance Board. It means serving all constituents fairly, regardless of party affiliation, and attending numerous meetings in addition to the regular City Council meetings.

Consider what you have heard and seen along the campaign trail and make your best choice at the polls. I do not endorse candidates and will say no more.

The polls are open Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Independents must file by 4 p.m. Tuesday to be on the November ballot along with the primary winners.
