Today's news brought the horrifying story of how three Good Samaritans had to save Police Officer Israel Valentin from an assault by a man with a criminal history.
The assailant, Andre Henderson, is in custody and faces charges of attempted murder while Officer Valentin is hospitalized with serious injuries.
Our thoughts are with Officer Valentin and we wish him a full recovery from this heinous attack, which took place Sunday afternoon, according to news reports. The citizens who saved and protected him deserve the highest accolades for interceding at their own risk.

This was horrendous--the council has expressed its sincere wishes for Officer Valentin's full recovery. Yes, those citizens who came to his rescue are heroes!

I am so greatfull that our residents responded and was able by the grace of God to contain this THUG!!!
Word is on the street that he was being rounded up and became desperate thus his action
WHAT A COWARD!!!
Instead of the decent thing which would have been to turn himself in he wanted to make a statement to all of Plainfield that violence against Law Enforcement is to be HONORED!!!
Well we the residents whom have seen the worst of our youth's beligerent and malicious behavior are sick and tired...We will not ever put up with this malicious and vile behavior
any more...Those brave residents need to be commended...Please be advised that we are still at war overseas... But the battle is raging here in this small town of Plainfield
between the enablers, those who try to cover thier kids stupidity... and those whom are buying all the pharmaceuticals (DRUGS) from these menaces...And the wonderful paople whom have become emboldened to take a stand for what is right no matter the cost!!!!
I thank God in Jesus Christ that we still have couragous residents whom are sick and tired and will not tske ity any longer!!!!!
Why can't Hellwig talk to the parole officers of the people coming out of prison, make the case that they are just going to return to Plainfield and hook up with their old friends and old ways. That - in turn - means continued crime.

Plainfield got to love it; it’s such a wonderful city. Here’s a thought, why don't we build luxury apartments right in the middle of a low density single family bedroom community and invite all these thugs to live there?

Hellwig doesn't have a clue on how to protect this City. Exactly what has he done for Plainfield in the past 6 years besides bring embarrassment and lawsuits? Ask yourselves why he left his lucrative job in Essex County for Plainfield at a substantial cut in pay? Why have all the other administrators hired by Plainfield come and gone and yet the man who should have been fired years ago remains? Didn't the County Prosecutor come to the Council not so long ago and urge them to replace him?

It takes a lot more than Helwig to run a City like this with all the challenges...But let us examine the fiscal budget before we make a decision on his lack of skills...I believe that he is stressed like any other manager to maintain tight fiscal responsibility, the limited resources have to be channelled correctly
