Campaign Tomfoolery

Before

After "Tracey Jones" posts on Facebook

As political trashing goes, this is fairly clumsy. If it is meant to give a boost to Councilwoman Tracey Brown and Alma Blanco, it is repellent enough to most people to have the opposite effect.

"Tracey Jones" also opines:

Do you realize that the 2nd and 3rd wards control Plainfield? We have no programs coming up for the kids and the lower class because of 2 reasons
1. Mapp doesnt care
2. Lower class and middle class folks dont vote...

Well, hey, isn't the cure for Reason No. 2 self-evident??

As "Tracey Jones" wrote on April 4, the deadline for filing to run in the June primary:

The candidates are in.... Get ready for the buffoonery Plainfield

  1. Wait for the reveal of the true identity of "Tracey Jones" (there is a way to find out who it really is) and maybe we will all be surprised, or maybe not. Too bad she doesn't know how to spell and wouldn't know a proper noun if it hit her in the face. It's also terrible to see how desperate Rev. Brown's supporters have become, accusing the opposition of being atheists when Rev. Brown knows that Mapp is very religious, and McRae's brother is a well-known pastor in the area. And Williams made it known that she was a Christian but believes in separation of church and state. Let's see if Brown denounces this from the pulpit. It's easy to hide behind God as the Tea Party does, but if the campaign is going to be waged on Facebook at least reveal yourself. In James 1:26 it says "If you claim to be religious but don't control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless."

    1. We'll see on Monday night if anyone on the City Council really believes in separation of church and state, or if we're now on a path to officially exhort the followers of a particular religion to engage in specific religious rites. It's on the Consent Agenda, R 165-16, but I doubt any Councilor will object.

  2. It is sad to see Ms. Brown's team use this ad that is hateful and incorrect. I'm being polite when I don't wish to. I've seen Ms. Brown vote on Sharon and Jerry's behalf and I wondered where her "Christian Values" were. As a Christian myself, I expect a lot from politicians and even more from clergy. This is sad and smacks of "Trumpish", new word, way of doing things. I hope the rest of the campaign will focus on issues not mileading untruths.

    1. Bob, see comments below. Rev. Tracey Brown has disavowed these tactics, so please temper your remarks.

    2. When I wrote this she had not made her remarks public, so my remarks are not made with that knowledge, but the part about many of her votes on City Council are true. I hope she really wants a compaign on issues and nothing else. That would be nice to see.

  3. And I bet Tracey Jones is a good Christian woman.

  4. This is not connected to Browns campaign in any way!

  5. I had said that I WOULD NOT defend lies told on me during the Campaign season. However, to my knowledge I have never met nor had a conversation with Tracey Jones. Ms. Williams is not an Atheist! On several occasions she has asked me to Pray for members of her Family and others. Mr McCrae also believes in Prayer. As previously stated, I will run a clean and HONEST Campaign. I would hope that all individuals who has interest in this Campaign refrain from smear tactics.

  6. Rev. Tracey L. Brown is an honorable Woman and would not stoop so low.

  7. Thank you Councilwoman Rev. Brown for clearing your position on smear tactics. I have also made it clear to my campaign that we will run a clean campaign and stick to the issues. Myself and anyone else have a right to run as a candidate. We should encourage and support more residents to get involved in our community. We will all have different political views, but what's important is that the community doesn't get ignored due to political battles. Or that a segment of a community doesn't get ignored. It's obvious that this 'Tracey Jones' is hiding behind a fake profile. My campaign or that of Councilwoman Brown are NOT affiliated with this person. In fact, I immediately blocked this referenced Facebook post from a page that I manage and will request co-administrators from another page to block/remove if future posts are circulated like this one, it is outright offensive.

  8. I would challenge Tracey Jones (WHOEVER she is), since she has a computer to look at the Dept of Recreation's webpage. I'll even make it easy for her and post the link. http://plainfieldnj.gov/cms.aspx?page_id=214&page_name=Recreation. There are 8 programs listed, 6 of which are in the 4th Ward!!! I also take offense to her classification of Plainfielders as "lower class". Webster defines "lower class as "a SOCIAL class that is below the middle class and that has the lowest STATUS in a society". Some may be economically challenged but they are certainly NOT lower class! If Ms Jones wants to spout such negativity about Plainfield and it's residents, I suggest she find another venue, because those of us who are trying to do positive things in Plainfield, don't want to hear it.

  9. When I received the unanimous support of the Plainfield Democratic City Committee to run for the open city council seat for "Councilwoman At-large," I said at that meeting that I would be running a clean campaign, focused on my strong record as a councilwoman and on the issues affecting Plainfield. Councilwoman Brown vowed to do the same. It is difficult to control individuals who think they are doing you a favor when they indulge in stuff like this, along with other juvenile behavior like removing and defacing signs. Councilwoman Brown and I both have deplored these tactics. I am hopeful that campaign supporters on either side will think again about what it says about their chosen candidate when they think it helps to call the opposition "devils," to express that God is only on one side or the other, or to take down a campaign sign. I am on the ballot with Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman and with our Freeholder Linda Carter--campaign nonsense also reflects on the other Column A Democrats that I am running with.

    1. Isn't Jerry Green the union county democratic leader for column A ? Why are you not taking photos with the party chairman .

    2. The Assembly candidates will be on campaign literature next year. Green ran in 2015 and can run in 2017. He is not a candidate this year.

  10. Rev.Brown, Ask yourself the question ,would they clear up a lie told on you? The answer would be no. You are a class act, and have my vote. Although I cannot publicly endorse you because I work at city hall and a lot of us who work there know for a fact that we would lose our jobs, trust me you have a lot of support right at city hall. We work in fear.

    2. Oh please - get another job if you are under such duress. Working in fear? What is going to be done to you? Most government workers are under contracts, and it takes an act of God to get them removed.

If you don't like this administration say so - if you don't like their policy say so - but the drama is tiresome.

And yes, I believe "they" would clear up a lie told about Tracey Brown - and I believe she would concur.

  11. This administration came in with the expectation employees WILL work and remember they work for the community. Those who are fearful are probably afraid their computer game time will be interrupted. So yes if they fear so much please find employment elsewhere.
