Labor Day March Urges Immigration Reform

With signs urging onlookers to vote and support immigration reform, marchers blew whistles and chanted as they made a circuit through downtown Plainfield Monday.
This writer was just coming out of PNC Bank when the marchers passed. I caught up with them again on Watchung Avenue. Among the mesages on signs: "Road Map to Citizenship Now!" with a SEIU logo. The Service Employees Union International actively supports citizenship programs, as noted here.
Their T-shirts proclaim, "We are the 99%" and remind people to vote.
I saw Councilman Adrian Mapp in the line of march.
Now that the city has seen a 65 percent increase in Latino residents (as per the 2010 Census, maybe even more now), gaining citizenship is a very important issue in the Queen City.

  2. I have to laugh at the RR Bridge with all the scratch marks on it. The correct warning signs are not installed on ANY street in town which give truck drivers a ONE block notice where to turn off and what bridge is acceptable. So much for quality of life.
