Memorial Day is a time to honor those who gave their lives serving their country.

Services today will include a gathering at 10 a.m. at the Plainfield Memorial Flag Pole, Watchung Avenue and East Seventh Street.

Plainfield has two war memorials. The memorial on the grounds of City Hall was erected through citizen effort. It is now included in most commemorations of our veterans.

Last December I came across a reminder of other lives lost by those who work for peace.

It is on the grounds of the Quaker Meeting House.
