"Celebrando La Independencia"

While Central Jerseyans are invited to visit the city for an afternoon of festivities Saturday in Cedar Brook Park, the Spanish-speaking population is also offered 10 hours of amusement downtown.

Signs advertising the Independence Day event sponsored by Faraones night club are hung on fences downtown. Anyone can attend the event from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, but it is heavily geared toward Latinos. The parking lots between Somerset Street and Watchung Avenue, Lot 8 and Lot 8A, will be closed off both days. The event attracts huge crowds. Besides a wide array of ethnic food specialties, it has featured mechanical bull rides, carnival rides, vendors selling hats and clothing labeled with Central and South American nationalities and a beer tent.

It's worth a look from anybody who is downtown after the parade. Visitors can pick up lunch and get a feeling for the diverse homelands of Latino neighbors.
The banner curls down at the top so it is hard to see, but the event is on Saturday and Sunday. Nightclub owner Edison Garcia also holds a festival in September celebrating the independence of several Central and South American countries.

  2. Eric,

The banner says 7th and 8th, focus on the part of the banner that folded over and you will see the bottom portion of the 7. please stand corrected.
