Mapp Weighs In On CD 12

Mayor Adrian O. Mapp on Jan. 1, 2014

Being the first Union County Democrat to make an endorsement for a successor to Rep. Rush Holt earned Mayor Adrian O. Mapp headlines in three online news outlets Tuesday.

Mapp was quoted on his reasons for endorsing Assemblywoman Bonnie Watson Coleman on nj.com. mycentraljersey.com and politickernj.com, before Union County and Plainfield Democratic Party Chairman Jerry Green got a word online. Assemblyman Green is usually a stickler for protocol and had only alluded publicly to Union County possibly holding the swing endorsement between perceived front-runners Watson Coleman and Senator Linda Greenstein.

PolitickerNJ said this about Mapp: "A former New Democrat who forged an alliance with establishment Democrat Assemblyman Jerry Green (D-22) en route to defeating incumbent Sharon Robinson-Briggs in last year’s mayor’s contest, Mapp said he does not know whom Green will endorse in the developing CD 12 Democratic Primary."

Whoa! It doesn't sound as if Mapp is going to adhere to Green's 2008 adage, "Therefore, it is time for every duck to fall in line with the premise of order." {Green was plumping for unity among Democrats - see entire post here.) But maybe Mapp is a lucky duck to be able to boast a White House visit in January and his own headlines now across the state.

One reason Mapp gave for seeking the title of chief of staff for his new cabinet was the need for someone to interface on the city's behalf with all levels of government. If Chief of Staff John Stewart is helping Mapp get wide attention for his views as the mayor of Plainfield, it was well worth the struggle last year to get the title approved by the City Council.

  1. Jerry Green had already indicated his intention to push for Union County endorsement of Bonnie Watson Coleman. But in Mapp;s case, his ego just won't let him be anything but the first in line. Poor guy!

  3. A observer might conclude that Mapp is actively in the process of padding his partisan hack credentials for a run at Green's assembly seat once Jerry decides to retire to the ranch in Georgia, but I couldn't possibly comment. FU

  4. Crime, crumbling homes, high taxes ... so far he has put his 2 cents in on Bridgegate and Congress. What about PLAINFILED's problems ???

  5. Jerry has got to go! He has done nothing for Plainfield - he is ego and ego. He is a stickler for giving him respect but gives no respect back to anyone and especially not Plainfield.

I am glad Mapp made the endorsement without the boss's OK. Perhaps now, all the people who thought Mapp was in Green's pocket may now have a different view.

And as far as changing Plainfield, has anyone been at City Hall lately? People are friendly, happy, and very willing to go the extra mile.

Jerry ahs a ranch in Georgia? Doesn't surprise me - he was part of the Democratic Assembly who helped to make NJ the number one state for property taxes. He can't afford his own legislation.

    Jerry has got to go!

  6. Does Mapp's endorsement help or hinder Bonnie?

  7. Plainfield problems are being addressed, but remember how Robinson-Briggs, a Republican turned Democrat, got in City Hall in the first place and was voted in for a second term even after proving she didn't have a clue or care about Plainfield residents in her first four years. One finger points out the rest point back. It's going to take a while to get Plainfield where it needs to be, but at least we are slowing moving out of the hole Shady Sharonda put us in. Anyone else to blame for the mess she caused? You decide. It wasn't Mapp.

  8. Mapp endorsement for Plainfield WILL HURT her chances for getting any VOTES from Plainfield residents.

  9. Bob stop blaming the Robinson-Briggs administration. The Mapp administration is spending all of the tax payers dollars on creating new positions and no one is saying a word about this. Mayor Mapp is paying all his political favors back and you guys are allowing it. Get over it Former Mayor Robinson-Briggs is out lets place the blame where it belongs. As far as Mapps endorsement I just want to thank him for jumping out there early now I know who I am not Voting for.

    1. Sharon did what she did and its there for everyone to see. What was she hiding by not hiring the people we needed to deal with our fiscal ship. Mapp has been in office for two months. You sound like a stolid Sharon supporter. Too bad.

    2. I think 1:34 aptly shows why Plainfield is in the muck it is in. Short sighted, no vision, no clue about what it takes to run an business.

The fact is that Plainfield was understaffed. Do you think this was such a great place with the way it was structured before? Maybe, just maybe, we need to think a little more broadly than just what is in front of your face.

  10. Perhaps residents of the City of Plainfield are not accustomed to having a Mayor who can think for himself. We had that in Al McWilliams and now with Adrian Mapp, Sharon could not use the restroom facilities without asking Jerry. SO what that Mapp has employed people. At least they are educated and have experience. What about all the peeps employed in the PMUA and lets not forget Barbara James, the REV and Sharon's boyfriend at the PMUA. Give me a break!

    1. It was the McWilliams administration that first corrupted the PMUA and the Inter Local Agreement, from the minute it came to office. Take off your blinders.

  11. So whats next is he going to state his position on the Ukraine? Do what you were elected to do FIX the City.
What morons are advising this guy?

    1. Fixing the city includes exposing the city to others, and not in a negative way. Mapp endorsing someone and making the news is a refreshing change from reading about another young person being killed here.

I think the morons are right on - bring attention to the city in a positive way. Show that Plainfield includes people with brains.

  12. How does endorsing someone bring attention to Plainfield in a positive way? If the Morons want to show the City in a positive light then concentrate on fixing the issues in the City first. Brains and Plainfield now thats a misnomer.

  13. Mapp
Is not demoting the un-needed police lieutenants that Sharon promoted just to make the guy that was on her security detail.
