"It's been a beautiful ride. I enjoyed it."
So said Assemblyman Jerry Green Monday as he acknowledged Mayor Adrian O. Mapp as the new chairman of the Plainfield Democratic City Committee. Mapp's Progressive Democratic Organization won 48 of the 68 committee seats in the June 2 primary, giving Green only his third successful challenge as chairman of the Regular Democratic Organization in more than two decades.
The transition was gracious, in contrast to the campaign that filled city mailboxes with incendiary fliers. Green received applause from newly elected committee members and guests at the meeting. Mapp told Green he wanted him to feel "welcome to be at the table,"while Green said, "As of today, I want to say it loud and clear, you're the boss."
Mapp told members of Green's slate, "You are a part of our party as well as anyone else who is a Regular Democrat." His first official action was to name Dottie Gutenkauf, a longtime Green ally until recently, as parliamentarian.
Mapp said he would be looking at the party's bylaws, which have inconsistencies, and named a bylaws committee headed by Mary Burgwinkle with Jeanette Criscione, Joylette Mills-Ransome and Ron Scott Bey as members.
Ward leaders for the next two years are Eric Graham, Ward 1; Jim Spear, Ward 2; Robin Bright, Ward 3; and Neville Greaves, Ward 4.
Mapp urged committee members to attend Tuesday night's meeting at L'Affaire to choose a Union County Democratic chairman. Green is the current county chairman and told PolitickerNJ he hopes to serve another term in that role.

Hi Bernice,
ReplyDeleteYou are always first with the Plainfield political news. Thank you very much. The City of Plainfield is so much better thanks to your hard work and diligence.
Thanks again,
To Kaercher
it would be so nice to think that the local Dems are now working for the people of the city instead of working for the people on the inside of the Dem Party... all eyes are watching... oh, and your first act as "BOSS" as JG so eloquently put it... Banish Sharon to the nether regions from where she came
ReplyDeleteIt's Tuesday and like I said last week.I hope your smiling and high fiving after tonight. See you in mountainside tonight. Mr. X
ReplyDeleteThe election is over Mr. X, now it's time for us all to get to work and carryout the business of the people.
DeleteMapp has control of the city dem party, Green will have control of the county party. One would think that this is all good for Plainfield. But that will only happen if we all hold both of them to it.
See you and your wife tonight.
I was glad to see how smoothly the meeting went last night and that Jerry was gracious, not often seen from him, and the transition went without problems. Assemblyman Green pledged to not interfere in Plainfield politics, so let's see what his lackeys do on the City Council. Hopefully, this election sent them a message, but they tend to be hard headed and self-serving. Taylor made a showing and is usually full of herself, but kept quiet. We can hope that this will improve for Plainfield and we need to be vigilant for the future.
ReplyDeleteWhen it came to discussing the PDCC's finances, Jerry Green said there was no money in the account. He said that he paid for everything out of his PAC. He also said that Union County didn't provide money for the campaign--other than some piddling amount in the form of sandwiches. This is strange, because we all received hateful, misleading mailers from "Union County's Committee"--so, what is Jerry saying? Was he dissembling about not receiving Union County money or is he admitting that he is the so-called "Union County's Committee" that used the infamous Trinity Place address to send those nasty mailers? I will wait and see whether he remains true to his "word" that he will stop interfering with local politics and obstructing progress in Plainfield. His word has not been worth much in the past, as we have seen. What Jerry Green engineered 10 years ago in cahoots with former UCDC chair Charlotte DeFillippo has not been forgotten. As many have noted, we must remain ever-vigilant against his machinations to disenfranchise the duly-elected Democrats on our local (and county) committee, which also would mean disenfranchising the Democrats of Plainfield. I will always give the *side-eye* --we've been here before.

The test will be tonight at the Council meeting.
DeleteOn the agenda is a resolution for a new engineering firm. If the majority votes against the minority, then that's the proof that Union County Democratic Committee Chairman Jerry Green is indeed going back on the commitment that he made to party leaders in the county when he agreed that he will not interfere in the business of Plainfield.
oh Rebecca... .it's been forgotten.. it's ALL BEEN FORGOTTEN.. it's after the primary.. the wagons were circled as to be expected...and all 21 municipalities did their duty to the party and kept Jerry around...Our Mayor included.. politics is one thing, to be sure, but morality is an entire thing altogether... Sell yourself out, fine... sell out the citizens of the city to play nice on the political field is another thing entirely..

“Ethical behavior is doing the right thing when no one else is watching- even when doing the wrong thing is legal.” ..............what's it called when everyone is watching and you still do it ?
Voting against him was the RIGHT thing to do... Mayor Mapp voted for him... Jerry Green, horrible on Monday..not so bad on Tuesday...we'll keep him around. A vote for whats right is never wasted even if you don't win. You'll all get exactly what you've been getting for some time... being beat down in the streets, seriously, the group of you should open a laundromat, because when it comes to the finish line, folding is what the New Dems do best.
But.. enjoy Jerry Green on his "promised good behavior".. because that's what he's done so well up until now... stunning, simply stunning.
