Mayor's Response on Outsourcing

UPDATE: Here is Mayor Adrian O. Mapp's reply to my request for a comment on outsourcing:

The administration will address this matter, fully, with the council on September 8, 2015. I am aware that certain employees are circulating self-serving malicious information. As you know, when it comes to personnel matters we are always limited in's  what we can say.

  1. Most of our city workers work hard, but some only keep their jobs because of the union and would have been fired long ago by any company in the real world. To bad is is almost impossible to get rid of those who only serve them selves and not the people of this city. Sounds like the attitude we get from some City Council members.

  2. 1) If this is addressed as "fully" as the North Avenue demolition in March, expect a lot of holes.

    2) Relating that you were informed by your union representative should not be considered "circulating self-serving malicious information".

    3) Although personnel are involved, this (outsourcing the planning division) is an administrative decision, so some limits should not apply. Show us the analysis, which in all probability is paper thin. When it does eventually get down to individual employees, hopefully they will choose an open public hearing so this is all out front for everyone to see.

  4. If the plan is to outsource an entire entity of the city government then it is not a personnel matter that can not be discussed in public. Instead it means a change in the city structure and merits a complete open public review.

  5. Uh oh, watch out Mr. Mayor is mad!

His team is not good at damage control and then he adds to the fire by accusing employees of being malicious? Oh lord!

Transparency goes a long way, not only when talking about all the nice things you're doing but also when you got something cookin' in the oven that the tax payers should know about.

Shame on you! I thought you were different. Just another politician.
