Storm Debris Still A Challenge

The day after the storm, this tree's remains filled an alley off East Front Street.
Here's the cleaned-up site.
"The Queen's Courtyard" was a gift from Queen City Savings.
Wires, a pole and a tree were all tangled up on East Seventh Street after the storm.
The tree stump is still blocking the sidewalk and one wire is still hanging down.
Lot 7 still has some leftovers from the cleanup that involved dumping of debris and transfer to 30-yard containers for disposal.

No doubt similar scenes are visible throughout the city as the struggle to cope with the storm's aftermath continues.

  1. E. 7th is a county road and while the county was picking up debri this past Monday and Tuesday apparently the stumps were not. Perhaps elected city officials should call county elected officials. I know I am and so are those neighbors on E. 7th whose house entrance is still pretty much blocked by a huge stump. Amazing.

  2. 700 Block of Sheridan still looks like a war zone. Stumps, trees, sidewalks standing at a 90 degree angle, etc. Calls were made to city hall and as usual....still waiting for a call back.
By the way, we were having the curbs redone and all the trees (10 of them)that fell were along the curb line...

    1. That's what you would expect when the contractor cut ALL the roots on the trees along the curb line (to install new curbs) and under the sidewalks (to install the new sidewalks). I watched one of the city contractors do the same thing in the East end when they replaced the curbs and sidewalks. All the trees had a VERY minimal root system when they were done and they all fell over during the storm. Some of these tress were 50+ years old and were NICE solid trees before the root system was destroyed. OH well so much for city oversight!
