Keep Calm And ...

... Obey the rules of Managed Open Access if you are at Stonehenge for the Summer Solstice 2013.
The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year and has been a holiday for centuries. In the old days, it was marked by bonfires and all-night revelry. These are modern times, so maybe you want to consult Pinterest on the subject.

In the Fremont section of Seattle, a Summer Solstice event features nude, painted cyclists.

In Times Square, there will be an all-day yoga festival to mark the Summer Solstice.

It's a good time anywhere to get out and enjoy the natural world. The first lightning bugs are out, roses and lilies are blooming, the weather is fine.
Midsummer is a time to celebrate the power and beauty of nature. Happy Litha to all!

  1. All days have 24 hours. This is the longest amount of sunshine in the year.

  2. @ 3:36 AM - It is an accepted use to refer to the summer solstice as the longest day of the year. "Day" in this case refers not to the full 24 hour day, but the time between sunrise and sunset (daytime). Longest day, shortest night. Dig?
Also - 6/21 may be a rainy,or cloudy day, so this day may not have the "longest amount of sunshine" as you define it.

  3. I was one of those people doing yoga in Times Square this morning! Very cool to see Tao Porchon-Lynch. I took a 5:33 AM train to make it on time. I'm gonna need a nap.

  4. I stand corrected ! Longest amount of daylight [North of the Equator]. Note: Being precious is very important sometimes, i.e. when the Council & Mayor say taxes will only go up "A Little" Define A Little when you are already paying BIG BUCK$ now !!
