Sample ballots arrived Thursday for the Tuesday, Aug. 13 Special Primary Election for United States Senator. Unless you live in a cave, you know there are four Democrats and two Republicans battling for their respective lines.
The Democrats, listed only by name, are Rush Holt, Cory Booker, Frank Pallone Jr. and Sheila Y. Oliver. The Republicans are Steven M. Lonegan and Alieta Eck. Party winners will vie for the seat in a special election on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
The regular general election is Nov. 5. Republican Sandy Spector, Democrat Adrian Mapp and independents Mustapha Muhammad and D. Scott Belin are running for mayor. Incumbent Democrat Bridget Rivers is seeking re-election to the Fourth Ward City Council seat and her Republican challenger is Barbara Johnson.
Also on Nov. 5, six candidates are vying for three three-year terms on the Plainfield Board of Education. They are Deborah Clarke, Richard Lear, Anabella Melgar, Board President Wilma G. Campbell, David M. Rutherford and board member Frederick D. Moore, Sr.
From what I understood at the Aug. 1 Charter Study Commission meeting, there will not be a ballot question on charter change. More on that process later.
