The abundant rain of recent weeks has given the yard a jungly look. I started trying to remove weeds from an Iris patch and ended up digging the whole thing up and dividing the plants, which were quite overgrown.
It seemed much harder to use a pitchfork than it was five years ago, when I did this post on dealing with Irises. I dropped back to the hori-hori knife and the ho-mi digging tool to wrench the clumps out of the ground.
If you have Irises that haven't been divided for a few years, now is the time. They may not bloom in the first year after division, but will look great later on!.
