Cuidado!

Some of the many Latinos who came to the City Council meeting Monday night may have gone home thinking politics can be muy peligroso to newcomers.

It was obvious that there were factions, both on the dais and among speakers in public comment. The smiles, the glares, the anger and the honeyed words made a puzzle that was hard to decipher. What was true and what was chismes? It was like meeting for the first time a family with long-standing feuds.

One of the first skills necessary to operate in such a climate is to observe and reflect on the behaviors before deciding who is a true friend to one's cause.

Buena suerte!

  1. Hi Bernice,

I have kept away for a long time and just recently started reading the blogs once again but this morning while watching David's video I couldn't but think about how much could the council and the administration learn from watching themselves on tape. The video reads more like a soap opera --with some very good actors and some really bad ones, nonetheless with room for improvement. As for Latinos, I think, in my opinion, that thanks to novelas we are very much used to drama. My hope is that the Latino organizations in town start really cultivating the next leaders and that your blog, along with other local blogs, serve as a resource to start building community and political awareness to the Latino community --It seems to me it is already happening.

    Best regards.
