The filing date for the June primary is almost two months away, but Councilman Cory Storch has already announced he will seek re-election.
As a seasoned campaigner, Storch may not need reminders of all the steps involved in running for office, but prospective candidates may want to check the election timetable that Union County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi posts every year.
This is a big year in Plainfield, which is dominated by Democrats. All 68 seats on the Democratic City Committee are up for re-election for two-year terms. The four-year City Council seats that are on the ballot this year are the Second Ward (currently represented by Storch) and the First and Fourth Ward at-large seat, held by Vera Greaves. As usual, there will be three three-year Union County freeholder seats up for election and this is also the year for state Assembly elections.
There will be three three-year Plainfield school board seats up for election, but candidates will not have to file until July 27. Special information for school board candidates is also on the county web site.
Please note, Rajoppi's office also posts election information in Spanish.

Hi Bernice,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Cory Storch is running again and I will be working with him and Rebecca Williams to try to make Plainfield and the 2nd Ward a nice place to live. I will be running again for the 2nd Ward, District 1 seat on the City Democratic Committee and see if we can get some transparent, healthy change and move Plainfield forward. I will be walking and talking with people in the Ward soon now that I am fully recovered and healthy after my heart surgery in 2013. I've lived here over 30 years and love this town and will work for the best for everyone in Plainfield. Thank you.
