Mapp Nominates Minchello for Corporation Counsel

David Minchello

Former Corporation Counsel David Minchello is expected to return to the seat next week, when the governing body votes to approve Mayor Adrian O. Mapp's nomination.

Minchello began serving as city solicitor in August 2011 and filled in for former Corporation Counsel Dan Williamson after Williamson left City Hall in 2012 to became executive director of the Plainfield Municipal Utilities Authority. Minchello served as corporation counsel from January 2013 to July 2014, when he left to become law director in Trenton.

He retained the title of Plainfield city solicitor, however, to the present and attended Monday's council meeting in that capacity in the absence of Vernita Sias-Hill, whom Mapp has removed as corporation counsel.

Minchello left the Trenton post this month. If approved by the governing body as corporation counsel, he will serve concurrently with Mapp's term, to Dec. 31, 2017.

  1. I recollect that during the time Minchello was city solicitor, there was another lawyer other than Williamson who often gave counsel at meetings. He always struck me as very knowledgable. Indeed, when he and Minchello sat together sometimes, I thought Minchello was his assistant. My mistake. But, who was that attorney among all the others?

    1. It might have been either James Ventantonio or Lucas Phillips. I have a feeling you know the answer.

  2. Minchello used to be a part of Ventantonio's firm, but he and his law partner, Antonelli, bought out Mr. Ventantonio, who retired. Ventantonio had been city solicitor, but then it went to Minchello when Ventantonio retired.

  3. I am a long time resident and retired attorney who volunteers in Plainfield. When I was involved in Charter Study Commission, I sought the advice of Mr. Minchello (because Corporation Counsel is also counsel to a number of municipal commissions) He was very responsive, regardless of regular business hours. From other volunteering that I do in Plainfield, I know that he has been very (and quietly) generous representing certain Plainfield organizations on a pro bono basis while away from employment in Plainfield. IMO, he is experienced in municipal matters, and that is what we need as a city right now. I marched in the 4th of July parade, and was happy but not surprised to see him on the sidelines , watching the parade. This is a good thing for Plainfield. Mary Burgwinklee
