Why does the City waste the time, expense and effort to solicit bids to outsource the work performed by the Planning Division without first getting approval for a layoff plan to be submitted to the State. Or why does the City waste the time and effort to submit a layoff plan to the State without first having approval to award a contract for consulting services.
I hope he is open to an investigation of the North Avenue demolition as well. Corporation Counsel David Minchello pointed to the contract with Yates Real Estate and said the City would be sued if it didn't make the extra payment of $54,000. This is above and beyond the $75,075 invoice Yates submitted for all work completed before the City pulled the plug . But the contract has several clauses permitting it to terminate the agreement for cause or convenience. What is the basis for this extra payment? Will Councilman Storch and his colleagues demand the same detailed rationale for this as he has wisely suggested needs to be done with the Planning Division? Or are we set to pay out cash hand over fist to every scammer and profiteer that comes along, along with the salaries of public officials whose misdeeds and fabrications follow after them like a shadow?
I just wrote a detailed email to Mayor Mapp explaining why outsourcing the planning function is a terrible idea that will damage our city and end up costing us more money, not less. I told him if he doesn't withdraw this plan, he will lose my support and that of many if not most of his supporters. I urge everyone who is concerned about this bone-headed plan to contact Adrian ASAP. We can't just sit by and commiserate to one another.
Thank you Cory for your detailed explanation. I agree the Mayor is good for Plainfield and his effort and plans to move Plainfield forward in a positive direction is evident. I too support the Mayor wholeheartedly, but not blindly. Although I am not privy to the decision making process, I can’t help but feel like there is more here than what everyone is talking about. In the grand scheme of things a $200K saving is not that much. Again, I heard the administration when they said the cost savings would be upward of $200K but thus far, no one has presented any concrete evidence of that. My main concerns are this, who is really pushing for this out-sourcing and why now? How would this effect any future plans for the Muhlenberg site? I along with many other of Mapp supporters ask that you abandon this outsourcing of the planning department at this time. I don’t see the urgency and I’m sure cost savings could be found elsewhere.
I find it interesting that our Counsel President and those sitting to her left (and one on the right) have not supported the placing items on the agenda because of a lack of information. In this case they plow straight ahead. Why?
Councilmen Storch is a joke. Like I stated before if he really wanted more information about out sourcing this division when sat around the table with the powers to be he should have based his dissatisfaction then. That's a fact. Before it hit any agenda when the mayor was talking about this plan in August he should have stood up for the planning department. Why dI'd he wait until now? He had 3 months to do so and yes he was aware.
So far Councilor Storch is the only councilor that provided an explanation for his vote. I think regardless of how each councilor voted an explanation for their vote would go a long way in bridging the gap of trust.
How do you know what discussions took place before now? It is only now that the council is being asked to take action. It is a fact that you think he should have "stood up." By the way, it is Councilman Storch (singular, not plural).
Ms. Paglia councilmen Storch knew well before any other council person other than council women Williams knew. That is a known fact. Mayor mapp shared this ideal with them both
Yes Bernice we know who it is. The poor grammar and consistent use of the plural is on all her correspondence. Everyone in the city administration who receives email from her knows who this anonymous is, embarrassing.
I have been reporting on Plainfield for more than 30 years, first at the Plainfield Today weekly, then at the Courier News and after retirement on the Plainfield Plaintalker blog and its successor, Plaintalker II.

Cory Storch is a politician running for election.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that exactly why he should state his position on an important issue?
DeleteWell hopefully Mapp is listening and realizes that the giant hissing sound is a large number of his dedicated supporters running for the exits.

ReplyDeleteI applaud your involvement. This is what Plainfield needs more of its citizens to do. Good for you.

What happened to the investigation? I thought Rivers was all over it, not to mention Taylor.
