  1. Hello Bernice, thank you for reminding us of the importance and power of voting. I believe we should all vote as voting is one sure way to get involve and give voice to what happens to us on a national level and more importantly, on a local level. Through the years I have learned to do my due diligence as a responsible voter. Too many of us think that once we go out and vote for President our job is completed. For me, it’s really imperative that we vote responsible on a local level. We must keep in mind, the choices we make here on the local level has the most impact on our day to day quality of life. As a black women and register democrat, in doing my due diligence and researching each candidate I have learned not to vote just one party simply because this is what we have historically been taught. Way before President Barack Obama, black folks have blindly voted straight down the democrat line just because, and we do this regardless of the candidate. Just do some research on any urban area and it’s local politics, be sure to check out the crime and unemployment rate. You should also research the mayor of Detroit, this should give you some insight.
It’s not Important for me to vote for someone that looks like me or sounds like me. It’s important to vote for someone that thinks like me, it shouldn’t matter whether the candidate is democrat, republican, independent, black, white, yellow, man or woman. I will always exercise my right to choose regardless of party affiliation. If we ever hope to change American we must start right at home by voting for the best person for the job.
Here in Plainfield I have watch our city go from a thriving safe community with a downtown that will rival any larger city to a high crime, high unemployment, even higher taxed city under a 22 year incumbent who’s up for reelection. We now have a chance for real change and because he is running as a Republican some black folks think we shouldn’t vote for him. While I respect everyone’s opinion, It’s time to vote responsible, smart and not like a machine. Republican John Campbell is running for State Assembly, 22 district against a 22 year incumbent. John is the new face of the republican party and it’s time for positive change, starting on a local level.

As you have stated "It's time for positive change, starting on a local level. Good Luck to both candidates John Campbell Republican and D. Scott Belin the Independent. Both of these men will do a great job in the City of Plainfield!
