Busy Bees, Political and Otherwise

Metallic Green Bees collect pollen from a Purple Coneflower.

These colorful bees made a perfect foil to the lovely petals of the flower. Bees are very busy nowadays in the garden.

In the political realm, it seems that even though Cory Storch has 10 months to go before he has to file for re-election, if that is what he chooses, the political spinmeisters are already buzzing with potential issues to pin on Cory.

Storch ran last time on the Democratic party line, but according to political lore, Democratic Party Chairman Jerry Green was sweating the decision up to the last minute. Once elected, Storch spoke in his own voice on city issues. He also endorsed New Democrat Rebecca Williams in the June primary, in opposition to the party's choice, Rashid Burney.

So Green may think he clutched a viper to his bosom by giving Storch the line, but others might say they are glad to have a council representative who weighs the issues and asks questions before voting.

Comments this week on Plaintalker II paint a picture of unresponsiveness by Storch to constituents. Plaintalker II cannot corroborate these allegations, but anyone in the Second Ward could test the theory by e-mailing or phoning Storch with a concern and then seeing how long it takes to get a response.

Green touted Burney a year previous to the June primary for the Second & Third Ward council seat. If he does not want Storch, when will the chairman declare his anointed one for the Second Ward in 2011?

--- BERNICE...this is why I LOVE your blog..lol..you have the true subtlety and wit that makes your blog interesting and amusing. As having only once emailed Storch and not getting a response, I assumed it was a "cyber" world error ( which does happen sometimes )but I am a little disappointed to see the opinion is that it's a bit more common. I do like him on City Council for the exact reason stated is that he won't walk lockstep with Jerry Green and rubber stamp whatever garbage that the "mayor???" puts in front of them.
I do believe that had Burney actually aggressively questioned and attempted to pin the "mayor???" down on her antics instead of the quiet resistance he would have been reelected. I hope Storch sees the concerns of the people who posted on your blog and goes out of his way to not seem "removed" from the populace. It would be a shame to have one of Jerry's shills make it to office.

  2. And so Cory STARTS to respond. What about the 3 previous years when people asked for a response and there were none.

So Cory responds in the next 10 months and gets elected. Don't expect to hear from him for the next 3 years.

  4. 1) Storch's votes were the same as Burney's... what ...99% of the time?
    2) I have lived in the 2nd ward for 12 years, Storch has been the councilman all that time. NEVER have I gotten any response from him on anything, LET ALONE has he ever reached out to me. All I get from him in public is a grimace or a sneer.
    3) As we all know, GWB killed irony long ago. However, to see Storch out there stumping for "change" still tickles my irony bone.
    4) Rashid Burney took more affirmative steps, did more on the council in his few years, than Storch has ever done. I say we throw Storch over and put Burney on the line for Storch's seat!
    5) And after we're rid of Storch, then Burney for Mayor next time around.

  6. I contacted Mr. Storch 2 years ago about a neighborhood problem, and I'm still waiting for an answer. But I know I won't vote for him again. During his last campaign, at a candidate's forum, I asked him what was his vision for Plainfield? He said he didn't really have a "vision" because he thought Plainfield was a terrific city already. Huh? He went on to describe how wonderful our downtown area was, with all the great restaurants. What planet is this man on? I don't want any councilperson who has no vision for what this city could and should be. Period.

  7. I don't know what all of you are talking about. Cory Storch has always been responsive to me. He usually responds to my emails within a day or two. I don't always get my way, but should I? Cory Storch has been a dedicated public servant for many years. I think he is doing a great job and I will be voting for him for re-election.

  8. I try not to read anonymous comments. But who am I kidding. Especially today when your story is about Cory. I couldn't resist them.

All I have to add to this subject is to mention the two new words that I added to my vocabulary post election: "CALL CORY"

  10. OK, I am not taking any more comments on this post. It is not April or June 2011, it is still June 2010, so save your brickbats or kudos for later on.

  11. Just for TMWCTG (secret code)---

    Hi Bernice,

In the past I have said to Dan Damon, "it's your blog and you may do as you wish". I now echo that sentiment to you. But
with that said, you brought the subject of Corey's re-election up. You challenged your reader's to 'test' Corey's responsiveness.
Folks then stated their experiences. So you cut them off? I'm confused.

I included you on an email this past month when I was broadcasting to potential voters Rashid's long list of accomplishments. A
return email from you stated that; "Plaintalker, (etal), did not endorse candidates", (not that I was asking you too). But are
    you sure about that?

I understand why you have chosen to close off the comment section. This subject could spin on and on.
Though, it is unfortunate that you choose to say "save your brickbats or kudos" so soon after my own comment.
My comment did not attack Corey, it was signed, and it's intent was to sublimely say that Corey's lack of support for Rashid,
and Rashid's subsequently not getting re-elected, puts Corey in position where he now needs to 'step up to the plate' !

    Sincerely,

    jim spear

  12. I think Burney made obvious contributions. As far as Storch is concerned I live in the 2nd ward and he hasn't been a proactive councilor. I look at how he delivers for the ward. Is he an outspoken advocate for the city Or a quiet voice of discontent. Call Corey in the 2nd ward? I don't know about you but I don't think so.
If change is what the city wants preaching to the choir isn't enough. You have to be able to respectfully convince those who don't agree to move toward a more progressive agenda. I want a true Progressive that can get things done and frankly it's not Corey Storch.

    You know who it is.
