A Note On Wynn

It appears that Dave Wynn has left his post as superintendent of Recreation. The whys and wherefores may never be officially known, although they should be, if only as a caution to any successor not to do the same.

I remembered writing a commentary about Wynn a while back and was somewhat shocked to see that it was two years ago. Wynn had quite a tenure for someone with such a long record of controversy.

For those who missed or would like to review it, click here for my commentary.

There is also this post from 2005 regarding pool repairs. Plaintalker had been hoping that the end of this year's pool season would engender a thorough analysis of pool use and management for 2013.

The question of how to run the Recreation Division in general is another matter. About 16 months remain in this administration, time enough to establish a good footing for the future of Recreation.

  1. Hi Bernice. I'm so glad your an optimist. With our current administration I'm not so optimistic, but I do hope, for the children's sake, this mayor will make the morally correct decision in who will replace Wynn.

  2. How times have changed, 30 years ago there would have been charges of a Black Man driven out of his post.

  3. To the next one: There is no possible way you can please even most of the people most of the time. Be prepared for lack of funds, poor structures, lack of money, angry parents, no budget, vandalism, no funds, troubled teens pushed to get out of the house, plus a bunch of problems you never would imagine could happen. Then they kick you to the curb.

  4. Adding to 7:50am - perhaps if you manage the budget of $775,000 well, cooperate with other agencies in town, denounce people who walk on the public recreation grounds and yell at kids to get off the field, have children's best interest at heart instead of golf and feeling protected because the mayor is your friend, and in general do your job, you will not have such a hard time, and you will not be kicked to the curb.

  5. @ 7:50 noone kicked him to the curb, citizens just demanded accountability something Dave could never provide. Of course parents are angry pools are never open on time if opened at all, constant fighting over use or the baseball fields etc. As head of recreation it is his reaponsibility to create structure, so Dave has noone to blame but himself for that. Lack of funds?? You must be joking with the budget recreation has there should be no issues maybe Dave Wynn should have kept his hand out of the cookie jar and there would be funding! Dave Wynn QUIT noone kicked his out of his posiition. The heat was on for accountability and answers so quitting was the best choice he made in years. It's a shame taxpayers will never know the truth but im sure it will come out soon. I would have liked to see him investigated and prosecuted but hopefully our children will benefit from the next person.

  6. Bob - The Mayor has no choice over the hiring of the Recreation Director. It is a civil service position and must meet the qualifications under the NJ State Dept. of Personnel. There will be a job posting and and a list provided of eligible hires on a Civil Service List.

  7. Some of the anonymous commenters seem to miss the point that Wynn resigned, he wasn't kicked to the curb. The mayor is still his close ally and vice versa. Don't be fooled. The question of why would someone resign from a job that pays over $90,000 a year is important. Why would he? Figure it out. If the gods are fair, the prosecutor will be coming after both of them.
