New Dunkin' Donuts Coming to West End

A new Dunkin' Donuts store is expected to rise soon on a long-vacant lot at West Front Street and Clinton Avenue after receiving preliminary site plan approval from the Planning Board.

At the end of the lengthy hearing, Planning Director Bill Nierstedt called it "the first project in the West End in some time."

The 1,850-square foot store will take up just a small part of the nearly half-acre site on the northwest corner of the intersection. Applicant Mo Khalid will have to satisfy certain board concerns, including traffic circulation on the site, before final approval is granted.
Attorney Jason Tuvel (sitting) and Planner and Site Engineer Harry Tuvel present the case.
The store will have 11 parking spaces and will be open 24 hours, though from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. purchases may only be made at a drive-up window. Khalid, who owns 14 stores, said the site will be monitored by security cameras that he can view on his phone and which will also be recorded by a security firm. He expects to have about five employees.

The store will have one major delivery per week and daily deliveries of fresh-baked goods in smaller trucks. Much of the application reflected Dunkin' Donuts standards for designing and operating stores, but the board won concessions on signage and logo display, saying other chains such as McDonald's and White Castle agreed to Plainfield's requirements.

  1. I wish them luck. I hope they have security, as areas near that are drug infested.

  2. Bob, please try to be positive. Every city has its challenges and with new opportunity and growth situations often change for the better. It is when a positive is met with a negative such as your statement - that perceptions are skewed. Try the old saying. If you don't have something good to say, don't say or in this case write anything. There is no value in your comment.

    1. I'm just stating a fact. Perhaps the new administration will be less self-serving and make Plainfield better. I feel positive about that.

  3. I also hope they keep the area clean. On 7th, the is a Caeser's pizza place and the area is a mess. I don't get how people think it is OK to live like that.

  4. It is unfortunate that many have a negative perception of the West End of Plainfield. There are many major corporations located in close proximity of the Dunkin' Donuts site. Such as: NJ Bell, PSE&G, Comcast, and more. Along with governement agencies such as: USPS, Plainfield Board of Education, Jefferson School, Plainfield Neighborhood Health Center, PMUA, and more. Is this negative attitude coming from people who moved to Plainfield and never crossed Park Avenue?
Homeowners should appreciate the large amount of tax revenue generated by businesses located int he West End. They deserve more recognition and support.

    1. Thanks for the postiveness, but I've lived here 30 years and am well aware of that area of Plainfield and its positives and negatives. It is what it is and we can hope for a better future. Ding dong the witch is dead and now we can move forward if the City Council starts working for us and not for themselves.
