Showtime for Bill Reid

Councilman William Reid wants you to know he is in an art show.He wanted you to know so much that he left the dais near the end of Monday's meeting, while a citizen was speaking in public comment, to come over to where I was sitting with pen and notebook. He handed me the postcard pictured above, explained he was in the show and suggested I might like to go to Morristown to see it. Upon returning to his seat, he spoke to Councilwomen Gloria Taylor and Vera Greaves about the show, while the hapless resident was still speaking.

Reid had already been chided by Council President Bridget Rivers for speaking out of order earlier. Rivers banged the gavel and threatened to adjourn the meeting, but Reid was not fazed. His disregard for the decorum of the meeting later by intruding his personal business was an insult to the public.

Regarding the postcard, anyone who regularly reads the blogs knows that I do not usually do event publicity, while Dan welcomes it. I prefer to use my time reporting rather than trying to convert posters and such into blog posts when there are other outlets for publicity.

Nonetheless, let it be noted that Mr. Reid is in an art show. You can click on the image to enlarge it for details, and/or look at www.artintheatrium.com

  1. There is no way I would support him. He does nothing to support the citizens of Plainfield.

  3. It's good to know that I am not the only person who finds Councilor Reid's disrespect for decorum insulting to the council and the public. He has often gotten up in the midst of public comment, gathered his belongings, and gone home. I think it is important for us to listen to the public. Of course, last month, when I I got up and left during the midst of his blather, I was called rude. Maybe I was. I left for two reasons: One, the adjournment of the meeting had been seconded and it was time to go; two, I had received a constituent phone call that had to be returned. In weighing my two options--to sit and possibly be subjected (like the public) to yet another torturous, off-topic, long-winded, and self-serving diatribe, or to respond to something of more immediate importance--I decided to deal with the constituent. Upon reflection, I guess it was rude.

    1. If William Reid is so offensive, and he was hand picked by Jerry Green, what does that tell you?

We can talk about an individual until the cows come home, but as with all of Jerry's council spots, these people were chosen, thrown on the line, and elected. Let's call it for what it is.

New Dems don't want to call it for what it is, because they are too busy trying to work out their "issues" with Jerry Green. Instead, they call out one of his surrogates. Convenient, no?

The result is a bunch of worthless grandstanding since Bill Reid is not a political entity. Bill Reid is gone as soon as Jerry wants him to be. Reid is not even seeking re-election.

Can we call a spade a spade and confront the real problem, not pile up on a man in Jerry Green's machine?

  4. Bill Reid has no regard for this city, or the people he serves in the first ward.

I hope that this June, the people of the first ward will wise up and put someone in place who will truly represent them.

To Council President Rivers - good luck dealing with him. Maybe the gavel should be directed elsewhere other than the plate?

  5. Rather than always complaining about Bill maybe we should just take a look at his house, read a bit of his story, and see if that adds to what we think of him as a man and a public official. I doubt very many people who read this blog, let alone those who comment, have been into too many houses in the first ward.

    1. You know the Temptations' song "Beauty's Only Skin Deep"? "She may be fine on the outside, but so untrue on the inside." That's Reid problem, he may be fine with his house and his craftsmenship, a great guy to shoot the breeze with, but as a public official it's a different story. Hardly ever votes for transparency or accountability, or else he's an obstructionist preventing any sane grip on moving the city ahead.

    2. I looked at the Inside of Bill Reid's house. I don't get the point. It doe sn't help me understand his rude and and obstructive behavior or inability to represent his district well on the City Council.

  7. I get the sense that Mr. Reid is tired, and just doesn't care anymore. Therefore, he does what he wants.

  8. I also looked inside Reid's house and saw absolutely nothing that would allow him to think that his rude, narcissist behaviors are anything but juvenile. His behaviors border on what use to be called senility. When his behavior is seen in a two year old we refer to it as "the terrible twos" . Which end of this spectrum is Councilman Reid? What did the writer think we would see in Reid's house that would "make it all right" for Reid to conduct himself in such a shameful manner meeting after meeting? Of course, there are now four others with whom he competes in terms of sheer stupidity.

  9. I think it's time for Bill Reid to give up politics for his art. He may better serve the public that way. His behavior at the Council meeting was childish and, for en elected official, disgracefull
