So said Union County Democratic Chairman Jerry Green at a Sept. 4 screening for the Union County Sheriff seat.
"Republican" has long been one of Green's pejoratives for Democrats who do not show sufficient fealty to him as chairman of Plainfield's Democratic City Committee, and now as county chairman he obviously expects the same.
However, observers of the local races this year can't help but notice hints of a political bromance with his Republican counterpart, Republican Chairman George Gore. In August, two Republicans who filed on June 3 for City Council seats withdrew. The vacancies were then filled by Gore in what appeared to be an alignment more favorable to the Third Ward Democrat and theoretically more challenging to the Second & Third Ward at-large primary winner.

The windows at Democratic headquarters on Park Avenue are jammed with signs for school board, Congressional and Senate candidates, but none for council candidates. Is it Column A all the way, or just part of the way? Are there certain Republicans JG would take out ... just for brunch?
Ironically, among the political establishment, he is one of the Assembly members most known for compromising with Republicans in Trenton. Rhetoric is a hell of a thing aint it?
ReplyDeleteHe will cut any deal he has to as long as he can continue to say, "I run this mother........" If this rant and behavior took pace in any other community in his district, he would have been removed from office. Such disrespect for the citizens of Plainfield.

DeleteI find it ironic that since Maria stop blogging about the school board that no other blogger made any effort to cover BOE meetings, but we have one blogger that has chosen to endorse a slate that the fish frying republican Campbell's put together. Wilma try to control the vote and will only pick candidates she thinks will do as she says. Her and her husband are worse than Mr Green any day and they need to go so our children will have a chance at a decent education.
ReplyDeleteLet's just call a spade a spade, they all need to go, we need new blood in this town and a whole new slate for City Council, Assembly, BOE, Mayor & Adminstration, let's stop with the leftovers/digging up the has beens and shouldn't have beens. Bring in a big broom and sweep all the trash out and keep it out.
DeleteI agree we do need a major overhaul particularly for Mayor, Assembly and the current president of the BOE. It’s easy to sit on the sideline and criticize but have you ever stepped up to the plate to run for office?
DeleteRegarding coverage of school board meetings, anyone can attend these meetings. The agendas are posted on the BOE web site. I will comment separately about why I had to stop trying to cover these meetings in addition to City Council, Planning Board, Board of Adjustment, Historic Preservation Commission, PMUA, etc.
