Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs led a Flag Day ceremony Wednesday to mark installation of the refurbished flag pole at City Hall. See the press release here.
Parts of the old flag pole were on display. Here is the old ball from the top of the original flag pole.
Public Works Superintendent John Louise shows off the old pulley.
.Another part dating back to 1918 or 1919.

Take a look at the restored flag pole and the new flag the next time you are on Watchung Avenue.

How fitting, the mayor standing at the center of an inverted pentagram

ReplyDeleteIt is nice to see a new flag pole and some of the new plantings and the decorative flags; but, generally, the grounds around City Hall are poorly maintained, including the lawn which is brown instead of green, weeds everywhere, uneven and cracked sidewalks and a half-cocked iron railing to the left of the flag pole.
It would be great if the person that influenced the recent makeover of City Hall's common areas and offices would make their way outside and help the grounds. Whoever it is, has raised the bar for what is expected in this city. Thank you.
A little pride goes a long way.
On Veteran's Day the ceremony at City Hall was nice, but started 30 minutes late, was poorly planned, and the grass needed a serious mowing. Many commented that Veteran's Day did not sneak up on us, so telling the grounds department to make sure City Hall looked good for the ceremony should have been a task our mayor could handle.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, Oscar. Plainfield residents need to get after not only city hall, but their neighbors. If you have a neighbor that doesn't take care of their property, report them. We have ordinances on the books that ensure that our city looks good - Inspections needs to know about the infraction and they need to follow up.
ReplyDeleteWe have no downtown, a sub-sub-sub par school system, and a government that is a circus - at least let us have a city that looks good.
Makes me laugh. The mayor truly has no shame. She does nothing for the Vets - she doesn't allow them to meet -she holds the key to the Senior Center. What a joke. I wonder what it is like having no conscience.
ReplyDeleteIt was not good to see the Police Officers at the ceremony not standing in full uniform. As with all uniformed services, the hat is a part of the uniform. Being in full uniform also shows respect.
ReplyDeleteI like how the two officers were holding the flag One stuffed it in her pocket and the other in his waist.
ReplyDeleteShow so respect for the flag
Yeah look the sergeant has his keys in his hand couldn't wait to get out of there.
