In Memory of Herb Green

Herb Green
Herb Green worked in many spheres and all who knew him will be sad to know of his passing on Nov 10.

Plainfielders knew him as a passionate advocate for education, a dedicated school board member and the first male president of the Plainfield League of Women Voters.

In 2008, Herb and his wife Marjorie mounted a letter campaign that doubled the League's membership. A Plaintalker post on that accomplishment included this quote from Herb:
"I remain hopeful that I will live to see the day when representatives of our entire diverse community will come together in friendship and mutual respect."

It is up to us still living to further that goal in Herb's memory.

  1. Herb was a giant, an advocate for children par excellence who pioneered in stimulating community involvement in education where he was a consummate professional admired by layfolks and pros alike. He also was a peace advocate, opposing US military adventurism in Viet Nam, Iraq and Afghanistan(and Granada, Panama, ad nauseum) where he, as a graduate of the Naval Academy, had sterling credentials and credibility.

And he was a warm and compassionate human being.

    Our sincere condolences to Marge.

  3. Herb was a tireless advocate for Plainfield's young people--but beyond that, for our entire community, and for peace, civil rights, and social justice. Our sincerest condolences to Marge--and to the Plainfield community.
