Mitt Romney Loses BOE Contest

Somebody told me about this card being handed out on Nov. 6 at polling places and today I found one on East Seventh Street. Who knew Mitt Romney wanted to be on the Plainfield school board? Maybe that was his back-up plan.

Seriously, folks, this is just another example of the so-called political "King of the Queen City" trying to diss his arch-enemy, the self-proclaimed "kingmaker" who has backed successful slates for both the City Council and school board in recent years. Mind you, the school board election is supposed to be non-partisan, but on June 5, the day of the primary election and also the filing dates for school board candidates for the November ballot, Democrats announced their slate at party headquarters. The other slate popped up on campaign signs all over the city before the general election (not including Mitt Romney).
Ironically, each slate won two of the four seats. Incumbent Keisha Edwards and political newcomer Jackie Coley won three-year terms. Mahogany Hendricks also won a three-year term and Delois Dameron won a one-year unexpired term. So much for kings and kingmakers.

  1. Bernice please pass the word.

Dan I am glad to see you up and running again. Can you please tell the community that the red cross is in the back of City Hall today giving out food, water, lawn products, cleaning products. I happen to be walking by and discovered this. There is no line. I know over a dozen people that need help and probably are not aware. The City need to do a better job. The council and administration do not need to make this political, there are a lot of people hurting. To see Lawrence Rive there taking pictures made me sick to my stomach. The council need to do a better job of communicating to their residents not just when they need a VOTE.

  2. Keisha Edwards is a John Campbell fan. Please look at the lawyer bills. I am so surprise the community chose to re-elect her. There were no real winners here. Each team got 2 of there canidates elected.

  3. The only reason I feel like something may be done with the BOE is because of Delois Dameron. She tells it like it is, and does it in a graceful, lady like way -- BUT she makes her point. Hope she stays on after her year is up. She is the only hope for Plainfield schools to get better.

  4. If it wasn't because the postcard only shows how sad and political BOE elections are here in Plainfield I would say that the postcard is way too funny. It is funny though. I wonder if the postcard could be sent to Mr. Romney and get his input, hey! Maybe he would even consider moving to Plainfield and run the school district. :-)

  5. Bernice, Now you care about the school board? And you Maria? You have something to say now too? For many of us, the most important issue is the education of our children, however Bernice has made it clear that she does not have time to follow what is going on at our schools. She only notices when the political bosses get overtly involved. If she had been paying attention, she would have noticed that this has always been the case. John Campbell has always run a slate and so has Jerry Green. The only difference now is that the BOE elections take place during the general election making it easier for the parties to get more of their vote out. Maybe this is a good thing since Bernice and Maria have finally taken notice. We haven't heard from either of you regarding the Board of Ed election at all until now. In fact, we hear very little about what is happening in our schools unless it is a political scandal. We need to find a group I bloggers that actually care about our kids an want to promote the good things they are doing in our schools as well as real discussions about what we an do as a community to improve the educational opportunities for our kids.

  6. 1:33,

I have to agree with you, we need a group of bloggers that are interested in covering the school district. The only thing that I would suggest is that they do not mix what the kids are doing -they always do wonderful things- with what the adults in charge do. As for your comment on what has always been done when it comes to slates, many things have "always" been done but that doesn't mean that they are right. Hopefully whoever takes on blogging full time about the school district can be a person with her/his own brain and train of thoughts. Good luck!

  7. Dee Dameron is New Democrat supported by Green. So, Jerry, New Democrats and the Campbells all made out.
