Mapp Launches Campaign Website

In a couple of weeks we shall know who the next mayor will be - and how many of Plainfield's nearly 22,000 voters took part in that decision.

There are four candidates for mayor, two for the 4th Ward, six for the Board of Education. Your sample ballot will also include candidates for freeholder, state Senate and Assembly and governor, and two public questions.

Perhaps the most interest locally is in the mayor's race. Candidates are Democrat Adrian Mapp, Republican Sandy Spector and independents D. Scott Belin and Mustapha Muhammad. Plaintaker just received word late Wednesday of a campaign website for Mapp (click here), while Belin has had a website up since August. Muhammad put up a website in June and Spector's website dates back to April.  Mapp has the advantage of being a public figure as councilman for the Third Ward and having run a mayoral campaign previously in 2009.

Besides checking their various websites, you can attend two upcoming candidates' forums to learn more. On Sunday, Oct. 27, the Plainfield Area NAACP will hold a forum at 5 p.m. in the Plainfield Elks Mohawk Lodge, 1357 W. Third St. The League of Women Voters of Plainfield will hold their candidate's forum at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 at Emerson School, 305 Emerson Ave.

This is a very important election. Plaintalker makes no endorsements, but encourages every voter to go to the polls prepared to make an informed choice. Vote on Nov. 5!

  1. Plainfield Politics - Bernice thanks for covering our local politics on your blog and allowing our views to be heard. Having Just read Jerry Greens blog on the subject of Muhlenberg this is my take-away. To me, Mr. Green has made it perfectly clear on what he feels the best use of that property would be, as he said before, he feels that a state of the art emergency room/medical complex that includes a 600 unit apartment complex would be the best use of this property. The fact that he sponsored a bill that would allow a tax credit to developers for repurposing qualified health care facilities leaves me wondering just how this will benefit Plainfield. What Jerry Green is not saying, but the bill clearly shows that it is actually a benefit to any developer looking to build a 600 unit apartment complex and use the remainder of the property for a state of the art emergency room. The bill will actually allow this and it’s obvious that Green’s bill was premeditated with JFK’s plan for this property from its inception. I’m also clear on the fact that he has been meeting with people in the medical field, JFK’s Adam Beader has been seen coming out of Jerry Greens office more than once in recent months.

What I’m not clear on is, why is JFK’s 20 million dollar debt Plainfield’s problem or responsibility and why is Jerry Green looking for the “right finance to off-set this debt” ? Why would Jerry Green offer to sit down with someone that has a potential buyer, he’s not the owner is he?

Quoting Jerry Green “When I am Re-Elected this November I will not stop. The people of Plainfield deserve the best”. I’m sure he will not stop at getting a 600 unit apartment complex build on the Muhlenberg property. And he’s right, we do deserves the best representation and unfortunately it’s not him. He had 22 years to advance Plainfield. He does not deserve another two more years just so he can make sure JFK’s plan for the Muhlenberg property is realized.

  2. I have to say after reviewing all four website, if I were to vote for someone based on the topic of issues, I would have to go with Spector. I am very impress with her issue topics and her clear response to each issue.

  3. Bernice,

Thanks for keeping the citizens of Plainfield abreast of all the candidates running for the office of Mayor. I took a few moments to look at each of their website, because as a citizen I need to be up to speed with everyone before Election Day. In particular, I read D. Scott Belin’s web page and he appears to be a good candidate for the Plainfield residents to consider.
I must admit that I heard him speak a couple weeks at an event here in the city. Plainfield should take a closer look at D. Scott Belin as a candidate for Mayor. He has the passion and drive to take our City of Plainfield into the future.
