Comment on "One Plainfield"

Aspiring to unity in a city as diverse as Plainfield means learning what is important to our fellow residents and showing respect.

Dan's use of the word "hajj" to describe his visit to City Hall Friday struck me as disrespectful. Hajj means the pilgrimage to Mecca that Muslims are expected make at least once in their lifetimes. It is the fifth pillar of Islam. Dan was just handing out questionnaires to employees as part of the mayoral transition process.

Read the post here. What do you think?

  1. his arrogance, smugness and "NEW CLOSE AND PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP" ( key Koumbaya in the background now please ) with Jerry Green would have him justify that word... Intimidate City Hall employees??? Nahhhh... be all sorts of smarmy .. yeah, without a doubt

  2. I agree. Most of what Dan writes is biased and based on lies and figments of his imagination, and much of what he writes is downright racist. His blog is nothing more than a tabloid rag. If rumors are true the blog may be coming to an end with a payoff of a position with the administration. But what does this say for the new administration? If he is responsible in any way for information coming out of city hall how can the community believe that the new administration is looking to unify the community? Sad.

  4. This is one of many such instances for Mr Damon. If you posted about all the false truths and disrespect in his blog, it would take over your own!

The worst part about Dan is that Mr "One Plainfield" Mapp doesn't keep him in check. Wouldn't it be easy enough to tell someone who says awful things about plenty of people in the city to calm down if he wants to be a part of your "one plainfield" team? Mr Mapp rewards Dan Damon by making him part of the transition team and who knows what else in the new administration.

You are the company that you keep, Mapp. Dan is divisive, and more improtantly he is dishonest and disrespectful. His inclusion in a new administration will give it those elements.

  5. And if he had said "pilgrimage" would that be disrespectful to Catholics? I don't think so; it's common usage. There is such a thing as being overly politically, religiously or racially correct, and I think you've found it, at least temporarily.
But back to Dan's post: did it strike you that he seems to have warmed to a new job as head snitch? He's going to find many more locked doors the next time he shows up.

  6. As public information officer during the McWilliams administration, Dan Damon's job was essentially to conceal information from the public. We don't need any more of that!

  7. dan damon knows that the use of the word hajj is in that context is and was offensive. where is the grass root repesentation on the team there are persons who have worked hard to show that the paradigm shift is more than theory but a obtainable reality and these persons can serve as role models for others in this city remember theres a lot of people in plfd who have various issues that ultimately produce ouallity of life problems will the new admin. seek advice from those who have taken hold of second chance and made that oipportunity work for them therefor work for the city by becoming a productive resident of plfd we know the problems in plfd consult across the board for input and solution

  8. It matches the arrogance of the incoming administration. Furthermore,I am not sure how one should have reacted. If a citizen comes in with surveys for the incoming Mayor and is not on the transition team (pardon me if you are) why would they feel comfortable filling out this information. As Alan Goldstein, it appears to be a heavy handed; and in my opinion unprofessional. Mr. Mapp will have a transition period and has been in city government long enough, to know this. Not sure I like the direction you have taken Dan. You really seem to enjoy this too much. When did it stop being a news blog and become: Schadenfreude, pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others. Don't think you will post this, but I am an intelligent person who knows Sharon was not right as Mayor. I would never show a count down clock with an unflattering picture. Life is short, tomorrow is not promised.
