Call It IckyLeaks

Somehow Dan gets all the hot inside news that us mere mortals have to wait for officials to confirm. His pointy stick must have a spy app - or is it that those in government who are supposed to keep things to themselves make an exception for Dan?

Some of the things he turns up or chooses to trumpet to the blogosphere are a bit queasy-making. For example, the image of Bibi Taylor opening her door to someone who reports to her, only to find he is delivering her official termination letter - ick. Or the notion of Dave Wynn being the mayor's special emissary to the council members, the same folks he won't talk to about what is going on in his division that is apparently spoiling the youth sports experience for a couple hundred parents and kids - double ick.

Most of us decided not to delve into a 2009 incident involving a department head after it appeared there would be no official corroboration of the lurid tale involving use of city-owned property to allegedly hook up with somebody nicknamed massageking1 on city time. Icky, but not too much for Dan.

While sniffing the air for the whiff of litigation in new developments, Dan might well consider whether he is giving succor to the litigious by posting too much of what insiders have shared with him. An elected official would be in big trouble for revealing privileged communication, especially regarding personnel. Can Dan post icky leaks and still count on being exempt?

  2. Your post has me thinking who the source of the leak is. Somebody Dan trusts more importantly trusts Dan. Someone with access to the info. My best guess... Storch.

Another consideration is what members on the council were approached in the first place about the idea of Taylor being fired. If it was by Wynn why didn't they bring it to someones attention that his(Dave Wynn's)involvement was certainly inappropriate if not a obvious violation of protocol? Whoever
that person is may end up costing the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of
    dollars.

  3. If Bibi is the best thing since sliced bread then how come she can't keep a job for more than 6 months, its not like this is the first time its happened. Its happened in every town she has worked every time she sues! I think Plainfield and its Mayor and Council and there failure to get a long was the very reason Bibi came on board, she knew it was a law suit waiting to happen.

What planet do you live on! So she KNEW she would get fired??? This is about integrity, which she had, compared to the other flunkies that proceeded her. If she is not reinstated I'm SURE there will be a stampede of overqualified candidates that will be willing to "serve at the pleasure" of the Mayor while ultimately knowing they will be fired... so they can sue.

  5. To 8:44AM - If you know anything about politics, following the law is the least of their concerns. If you know Bibi, you know that following the law is her guiding principle.

My bet, is that the town for which she formally worked had an equally sleezy mayor who asked her to lie.

Funny that you question Bibi, but not the motives of the mayor. Do you go to council meetings to see how Bibi performs, or is this just another non-voter blowhard giving an uninformed opinion.

  6. Seems the lay-off plan has brought the ugly out of everyone. What happened to the concessions by the Unions that were printed in the paper and on Mapps blog. Seems we wouldn't be here today if it went through. Bibi spoke of the two unions being ready to concede, looks like once again Public Safety wouldn't help he budget out, which could have saved her job. Funny everyone is concerned for her but not the people being let go, Mapp knows how losing your job feels. Supposedly no one is indispenable.

  7. We can be critical of the mayor specifically with her handling of WBLS matter. However, the policies advocated by Bibi Taylor can not be ignored. Proposed furloughs for only the public works department. Is that fair? Furloughs should be extended to all non-public safety employees. If we move beyond the public spectacle of city council meetings and look at the policies then we could draw a reasonable conclusion.

  8. Why is it that we see other cities accross the country impose mandatory furloughs to all employees - no Union participation - just mandated and approved. Cops and fiorefighters layed off, etc.` Is Plainfield afraid of fighting this actions out in the courts????

  9. As far as who is being targeted for layoffs, perhaps Bibi was only doing the mayor's bidding. She depended on keeping the police happy to get herself elected. She definitely is not going to force them to give back. The buck stops with the mayor. The other point is why is dave wynn acting as the mayor's assistant. Shouldn't canvassing the Councilors been the assistant who is getting paid for that position? Another possiblity is Bibi didn't bend over backwards to save the cuts being made to recreation so it might have really been his direction to the mayor to get her fired. Jerry may not be the puppeteer after all.

  10. You don't have what Dan does: A direct line from Councilmember(s).
