PMUA: Do As I Say ...

So we have diligently saved our paper and cardboard to recycle in the brown container and here it goes.
Oh noes! The bottles and cans we sorted and placed in the blue bin are going in, too!
Other people have wondered about why they should separate recyclables only to have them get dumped in the same truck.

Will they be sorted all over again at the Rock Avenue transfer station? Or maybe they were so contaminated by people who tossed their garbage in the recycling bins that the company that takes recyclables can't use these loads.

Still, it does seem like a case of "Do as I say, not as I do." Another of life's little mysteries in the Queen City.

  2. Mixing paper with the glass and plastic is not the best way to recycle! Up at the Rock Avenue transfer station they have a separate place for paper and cardboard--it may mean a trip up there but from an environmental point of view it's worth the effort.

  3. Better yet, when you ask them at PMUA why they are mixing the garbage, they have no answer. Unbelievable!

  4. PMUA has allowed mixing of recyclables for years (but Styrofoam is not a recyclable- pet peeve.) One of the few user friendly benefits they offer. Perhaps brown containers are relics of a bygone era.

  5. Does anyone know why the next bill is due 5/15? and not 6/15? I thought the PMUA bill was due quarterly. I just paid them last month.
