Long Meetings Test Endurance

After Monday's very long City Council meeting and then blogging until 3 a.m., I was definitely not up with the Morning Glories today.
I agree with Maria, long public meetings tend to drive away all but a handful of attendees. Being a retiree, I can take time to recuperate, but the schedule works against engagement of younger people juggling jobs and family obligations. Even the notion of reviewing a five-hour meeting on television in one's own home is daunting to busy citizens.
Let us hope for an increase in collegiality and common purpose between the administration and the governing body so that things don't continue to take so long to hash out.

  1. I support our City Council and hope they continue their good work, but I think it is selfish and self-serving for them to have only one meeting a month. In this time of Mayoral irresponsibity and financial crisis the citizens need to be involved and one meeting a month goes again that and transparency.

  2. It's actually two meetings a month, plus committee meetings and meeting with constituents. I think that what should happen is that a time limit of 11pm should be set. What doesn't get done by then goes to the next meeting.
