The City Council will hold a special meeting Monday to appoint three PMUA commissioners and to authorize submission of a layoff plan to the state Civil Service Commission.
The meeting is 7 p.m. in City Hall Library.
The layoff plan follows passage of the SFY 2011 budget last month.
The PMUA appointments, if passed, will be just in time for the authority's annual reorganization in early February. The initial proposed appointments have been revised. Plaintalker will await the text of the resolutions Monday to confirm the terms and successions. Those being nominated for City Council advice and consent are Tracey L. Brown, an incumbent commissioner, and Charles Eke and Cecil H. Sanders Jr., both new to the PMUA board of commissioners.
The governing body will also hold a closed session Monday on personnel matters.

More patronage here than you can shake a stick at. Reject them all and end PMUA's existence as an unaccountable tax on the wallets of Plainfield residents. The time for the City Council to stop passing the buck is now. Voters should reject any municipal candidates that don't make eliminating PMUA a central theme of their candidacy or term in office.
ReplyDeletePMUA needs to be dismantled. It's nothing more than a cash cow for those who run it, including the man at the top who enjoys an
ReplyDeletealmost $200,000 a year salary plus perks at the expense of the tax payers! RIDICULOUS! Tell your council person you want them out!
The layoffs are merely lets make a deal now, let the public safety unions off the hook in exchange for employees being allowed to work from home. How many councillors will take the bait.
ReplyDeleteDo the PMUA commissioners get paid? Tracy Brown is SRB's pastor, and Eke is a campaign manager for JG and SRB.
ReplyDeleteThis is really outrageous! Dismantle the PMUA NOW!!!
The current commissioners receive $4500 a year + full FAMILY dental and health benefits. In addition, Ms. Brown has received numerous travel allowances during her tenure at the PMUA. It's absurd that the council would even consider reappointment of Tracy Brown. Sharon only nominates her fellow buddies. The council should reject all nominees and tell the mayor to bring qualified candidates or better yet, disband the PMUA. This is a patronage pit with the commissioners allowing the executives to run the agency to the ground.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't this amount to taxation without representation? Isn't it true that your can be put up for tax sale for non payment of PMUA fees? But there is no say whatsoever in who runs it, or how. No elections.
ReplyDeletePMUA has to go. Now.
See the term fees in the dictionary. The shared service fee is a tax. Since it's mandated by the PMUA, it amounts to an unfair local government tax.
