Computer Foibles

"Aargh! Blankety-blank computer!"

This morning, the computer turned itself off and threw up a blue screen of, if not death, extreme malaise. It is working now, obviously, but may become dyspeptic again, in which case you will not see Plaintalker posts except from the Plainfield Public Library. So don't worry if I drop out of sight without notice. It will not be a case of Jersey Mayhem by offended officials, just the usual quirks and quavers of an old computer.

  4. If you are getting a blue screen should have a number that identifies the problem. This is called BSOD number. The number has various zeros then followed by the actual error number, so it should look like this: 0000000000124 or 00000000009c. The last number indicates what is the problem. So, here it is what each means.

124 - "general hardware failure" - CPU is not responding.

9C - problems with your hardware (could be your RAM is dying.

101 - "Clock Interrupt not received from Secondary Processor" Usually, this is a problem with your CPU not receiving the proper volts. Could be your power supply is dying.

So, if you are seeing a blue screen and any of these codes show up, it probably needs a hardware to be replaced, but you might as well buy a new computer if this keeps happening frequently.
