Signs of the Times

The school board election is April 27, with one slate of three candidates and incumbent Agurs Linward "Lenny" Cathcart seeking three three-year terms on the board. Signs for the Edache/Surgeon/Hurtt team have begun popping up around the city formerly known as Plainfield.

"Gatos gratis" are among the offerings on this post at the Twin City plaza. The stanchions have become impromptu signboards for babysitting, day labor, apartments, entertainment, event notices and more. This array is a bit weather-beaten.

Store windows are supposed to have only a certain percentage covered by signs, but obviously there is too much to offer here to be limited by rules. By the way, the A-plus is probably not for spelling.

  1. Love the last picture...Rules Smules ! One can only be grateful that was not a homeowner with an uneven sidewalk....there would have been fines involved!

  2. These window poster and the signs on the tree lawns on South Ave blatantly disregard our sign ordinances. It is this type of abuse that makes our city look like crap.

Bill Nierstadt is responsible for these violations. You can't tell me he doesn't see them as he rides past them most days on his bike.

C'mon Bill, we all realize your plate is full but take an hour one day and you or someone on your staff call these places. Give your badge and I will do it, HA. I swear I will be nice.

This is an improvement that our City can make that will cost NOTHING!

  3. I love the incorrect spelling of Plainfield on the Board of Ed signs, so telling of the people running our city and schools!

  4. NOT at all to take away from Anonymous at 4:14PM...but I'm in printing...you'd be amazed at what sometimes gets missed in proof reading a final "proof" for ok from both the client and the printer...sucks big time when the layman's eye catches it right away, but it happens. That's why I didn't comment on that at all, my employees, myself and our clients have missed some of the most absurdly simple things that say a billing clerk glanced at something and said, "Hey, they spelled that word wrong", AFTER it was printed.
