This time it was a store owner in the East End, near the city yard and not far from Maxson Middle School. Eduardo Leaty died and Jimmy Benjamin Sr., father of author J.M. Benjamin, was hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
When merchants, taxi drivers and students are shot to death, residents cannot believe that enough is being done to keep the city safe. It is doubtful that ShotSpotter or cameras can be placed all over the city. The call for more police patrols takes on greater credence and urgency when crime is widespread in diverse neighborhoods.
Let us hope that law enforcement officials are able to bring the attackers to justice soon.

How can they clean up Times Square and cannot get the trash out of Plainfield? I think it is inefficient management. How many police are on the streets? How many are on special projects? Perhaps we should look at other towns who have been successful in cleaning up their streets and incorporate some of their practices.
ReplyDeletePlainfield seems to keep onto itself without seeking outside help. Makes me suspicious that the powers to be want to keep this city divided and are afraid that looking into Plainfield will divulge things more awful than we know today. And, more inportantly, that the powers to be, and who are, won't.
I believe it's time to bring in the state and I am going to personally inquire with the state and see what could be done. This is ridiculous!
