Council President Adrian Mapp has published his "agenda for 2012" on his blog. He makes a number of very good points and proposes some significant initiatives.
Of course, even the council president is just one of seven people who represent the citizens of Plainfield. Their unanimous approval of Adrian to serve as president is a good omen for the kind of cooperation that the governing body must come up with in 2012 if the city is to move forward with economic development and improved quality of life for all. I'm sure Adrian will welcome various points of view on how best to accomplish his goals, but as Annie McWilliams did rather deftly in 2010 and 2011, I believe he will deflect the negativity of those who prefer battle over collegiality and progress.
May "Team 2012" truly be one in the months ahead.

Several times over the past year and a half Councilman Mapp's votes showed a greater preference for side-stepping the One Stop Career Center and the Public Library, directing public funds to profiteering rent-seekers who carve out their income through political connections, provide no economic or social benefit, and deplete the resources our community desperately needs.
ReplyDeleteHe approved local pay-to-play legislation that is filled with holes and does nothing to combat conflicts of interest on the Council itself. (See Councilman Reid's elevation to Chairman of the Whole as a case in point.)
His recent ringing endorsement of a party hierarchy that open-handidly sold itself to Jon Corzine and proves time and again that money talks in politics, shows above all that
Mapp is a party guy, ready and willing to sniff the winds of political fortune, as need be.
So we'll see if he says what he means and means what he says, if we're better off for it, or just have more of it.
Who we kidding, Mapp is up for re-election, Mapp wants Jerry's line for Mayor, and every decision he makes and every vote he casts is related to those facts. He does this carefully as not to tick off his base too much.
ReplyDeleteJust look at his vote for the status quo for commissioners on the PMUA. He voted for Jerry Green's candidates, Malcom Dunn and Cecil Sanders. Alan Goldstein is right, Mapp is a party guy. This in it self is hypocritical as in the past he used his influence as the head of the New Dem party to go after other politicians that have gone this route.
One would think that Mr. Mapp learned from his experienced as Freeholder or by watching the career of Al McWilliams; he's going to get burned and Plainfield will continue to suffer. All for his own personal agenda.
Politics as usual!
This is a complete joke Bernice. Mapp is a career politician rubber stamping Jerry Green. Time and again, he has put his political ambitions ahead of the needs of the people.
ReplyDeleteJust because there are bigger thiefs in the room does not make him an angle.
