Budget Introduction, CBAC Names Expected Monday

The budget process is off to a later start than last year, but by Monday more details should be confirmed.

In my previous post on the budget process, I mentioned a lack of collegiality as one possible issue in drawing it out. Among the names offered to serve on the Citizens Budget Advisory Committee, there was one that at first glance does not seem likely to foster collegiality with the administration, and that is former Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs, nominated by Councilwoman Gloria Taylor. The former mayor has challenged the current one, Adrian Mapp, for many years while he was a councilman and perhaps more so since he beat her in the June 2013 primary.

Other nominees are Tom Kaercher, by Councilwoman Rebecca Williams; Delois Dameron, by Council President Bridget Rivers; and Jan Massey, by Councilman Cory Storch. The names of Thomas Crownover and Richard Stewart have been mentioned, but not who nominated them. Each council member gets to name one, so there is still one vacancy.

Massey, Stewart and Dameron have previously served on the committee

Finance Director Ron West gave a rapid-fire budget message for which I have to get some details that I missed while taking notes.

The council expects to name a budget consultant next Monday, but no schedule has yet been announced for budget talks. The agenda also includes temporary appropriations to operate the city through May.

    1. Did you suggest a Latino to your council representative? Do you know who your council person is? Who would you suggest?

    2. Don't worry, there is no process. Strictly dog and pony for the masses. No harm in being left out.

  2. Remember that this is for money ALREADY spent since January 1, 2015. There will be LITTLE impact on what is needed to be raised by taxes [get it ... the $$'s have already gone and MUST be replaced] and then next year the dog & pony shows again ... late.

  4. Norman Ortega: No one wants to work with someone who whines all the time. Stop it! It's annoying.

  5. When oh when will the bald-left-handed-trans-gendered-Pacific Islanders-of Cherokee nation have a voice on the Council and be represented in the budget process?

Come on people, we need good people who represent the whole of our community not just sectors of the population - Plainfield and beyond!

    1. Again, well said. If people want to be involved, they have to make it known. Norman, did you apply for anything or make it known that you are interested? Ray Blanco wanted it and got it. He would be Mayor today if he were still alive. So quit yer bitchen and get involved.
