For the couple dozen people who read my nature posts, here's one. While taking out the trash Friday, I glanced up and saw this large bird silhouetted against the gray sky.
It was a juvenile Cooper's Hawk which apparently got soaked in the rain and needed to dry out his feathers. It was probably the offspring of the Cooper's Hawk that patrols our neighborhood for pigeons and even squirrels to eat.
We have a lot more wildlife around Park & Seventh than one might think. I saw an opossum one night last week and we have had skunks, groundhogs, raccoons and deer in our yard.
A wild turkey was roaming on Cleveland Avenue one day and we are visited often by Black Vultures who forage along with the feral cats for edibles in the trash bin.

Great shots of the hawk! It was nice for him to pose like that for you! I'm still on the lookout for the rumored fox in my neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the hawk can take care of your squirrel issue, Bernice!!!
