Please read this information from the Governor's Council on Mental Health Stigma/Military and Veterans Affairs for some perspective on combat-related mental illness.

  1. Thank you for the article, Bernice. We need facts no histrionics to help us move forward.

  2. Bernice,

Military veterans constitute a fair number of my students at Essex County College--some are also in the reserves. A small number among these are contending with varying levels of PTSD. Our veterans have stood on the front lines for us. We owe them decent housing. Inflaming folks with the suggestion that our veterans are deranged or that they might be dangerous is unconscionable, so I am glad that you posted this link. Also, for those who remember Dottie G's work on behalf of Muhlenberg, please note that she was in favor of the idea of assisted living, because it would have kept her and her beloved Joe close to home. Any one of us could conceivably need assisted living, and wouldn't it be wonderful to have loved ones in a facility right here?

    1. Isn’t the residents of Park Hotel (on Park and 7th) consider assisted living clients and isn’t that a assisted living facility? Yep, it certainly is. Pandora’s Box.

  3. The issue should not be about veterans. The issue should be about the non-compete clause which limits the free market place.

    1. And the fact the community said no housing! Period. But who cares what the community wants, unless you’re running for election.

  5. Earlier this morning there was another comment that appeared between the 12:56 PM and the 9:03 AM comments. What happened to it? Where did is go and why was it removed?

    1. I don't think I removed any comments. Do you remember what it said? My gmail said there were 6 comments.

    2. it was a comment from Rebecca Williams saying how a lot of her students were vets and some with PTSD. Basically she was saying the plan for the Muhlenberg site was a good idea. My response, was why didn’t the administration put in on South Ave in a mostly commercial area. Now that would be an ideal location for this type of project. Don’t you think!
