When Jerry Dumped Bonnie

A story on Politicker NJ tells how a mailer touts Column A in Plainfield, urging voters to choose Democrats by name in the categories of United States Senator, Surrogate, Freeholder and City Council but for member of House of Representatives indicating only "Your Congressional Democrat."

Well, there are four Democrats who want that seat succeeding Congressman Rush Holt, and Union County Democratic Party Chairman Jerry Green came out for earlier for Bonnie Watson Coleman. Now he wants the voter to decide which of the four to choose.

The story quotes Plainfield Mayor Adrian Mapp as attributing the curious lapse to Green's wish to appease Middlesex County Democratic Chairman Kevin McCabe. Alternatively, an unnamed Union County source links the reason for the generic "Your Congressional Democrat" to the mailer being funded in part by Cory Booker, who is at the top of the ticket running for a six-year U.S. Senate term and allegedly did not want to be drawn into what Politicker NJ calls the "congressional warzone."

But in the upper left corner of the mailer, complete with union "bug" missing a preposition, is "Paid for Jerry Green for Assembly." That would seem to refute the Booker theory.

Green prides himself on having his finger on the political pulse, but here he just seems to be giving Watson Coleman the Jersey Salute.

  1. I am a Democrat and pride myself on voting in every election, I know that I am only one vote but I refuse to vote for anyone on line A. I don't want to have anything to do with anyone that's associated with JG, when the commercials come on TV I turned the channel because it makes me sick to my stomach to even here those three names and the lies associated with them (Toliver, Eke, Taylor). Plainfield Please, Please go out to vote and skip Line A altogether, vote for others because if you don't you will be voting for these unsavory people by default. If you don't like anyone on the ballot, you can write in your own name.

  2. To 11:13pm - I am with you! I bullet vote - and Watson should be ashamed of herself dissing Mapp and putting Green on her transition team. I am one vote, but one vote Watson will not get.

    1. You are kidding, right? Mapp ruling Plainfield and Jerry not?

I think you have a job that was given to you by Jerry.

And, by the way, I am also a strong standing Democrat and live in Plainfield. Not only will I bullet vote, but I am embarrassed that Jerry represents Plainfield, and humiliated that he lives here. I hope he doesn't tell anyone.

    2. Anon 9:49 - please go back to work. State employees should not be conducting political work during business hours.

  5. You do have choices. We as Plainfielder's have more than one choice on election day.. You could vote Republican. Make your voice heard in November and tell the Chairman of the Democrat party you have had enough, because until you get Green out of Plainfield and Union County politics nothing will ever change they will only keep getting worse.

    1. Anon 1:51 - with 800 some odd republicans in Plainfield your scenario is just next to pointless when it comes to getting Jerry and his LINE A fools out of office - or away from office.

  7. Hi Bernice for the first time since I have been in Plainfield for 25years I will be voting for the regular democrats of Plainfield. I showed up a NAACP debate and to my surprise none of the candidates running under the new democrats slogan showed up. Then I waited for the debate to happen at the public Library and I was informed that there would not be a debate because the president whom is Councilwomen Williams decided not to have one this year. That raised an eyebrow for me. What are the New Democrats platform and why wouldn't they take it to the voters? I will be Voting tomorrow Line A

    1. The NAACP knew in plenty of time the New Democrats were not going to be able to attend due to the last minute notice. Pity they did not inform the public.

    2. Anon 2:05 or should I say Sharon Robinson-Briggs. The focus on the NAACP debate is a giveaway that you are a dope. And if you are SRB then it is confirmed that you are a dope.

Btw - prior to the creation of the New Dems about 8 years ago what party did you vote for if it wasn't the Regular Dems? You went 17 years voting for the Republicans? Libertarian? Communist?

  8. This may be slightly off the subject but is part of the fabric of Plainfileld politics. Some time back someone wanted to know how much the PMUA spent on their public party. Through OPRA I received the bills which total $21,134.

To the extent that some children may have enjoyed some pizza, chicken or papuas, had their face made up, or received a balloon from the balloon magician it was money well spent. I do take exception to the purchase of two monogramed golf jackets which were presented to two "Dignitaries" at a cost of $168.00 each. The "Dignitaries were not identified.
From a more critical point of view one might reflect on the fact that annual PMUA fees of about 20 households were used to conduct the event. One might question the quid pro quo.
It is left to every reader to render his judgment.
Please remember tomorrow that the Old Dems rejected the proposed new blood which Mayor Mapp attempted to infuse into the PMUA. Bill Kruse

  9. Jerry is all about ruling Plainfield, so I guess 9:49 is Jerry or a Jerry flunky. You are a waste of a vote.

    1. That is great, Renee. But how do you know who that is? Jerry's mailings tell you nothing about his candidates and what they stand for. They do tell you that he doesn't like Mapp, but I guess Jerry didn't get the memo that Mapp isn't running.

If you have done outside research on Toliver, Taylor and Eke, I applaud you, and suggest that you write a book about how you did it. Your statement about voting for the best candidate is exactly what should be done.

    2. Renee - what does that even mean? Why bother posting if you aren't going to say anything? Are you going to be this clear in your decisions when you run for BOE? I hope so - will make me feel better not voting for you.

  12. To 1:51 and 4:49 there may be less than 900 registered Republicans left in Plainfield, but in November the Dems and Indep can vote for a Rep in order to start the campaign to let Green know he is no longer wanted or needed in Plainfield.

  14. Bonnie apparently has gotten the message that Jerry Green isn't going to do anything for her--I just got an email from her campaign which lists her Plainfield HQ as 633 Park Avenue.
