The building will rise on the former site of Romond's Garage. Developer Frank Cretella received approvals in 2011 for the project, which he expected to pair with redevelopment of 12 apartments in the former Miron's warehouse across the street on Gavett Place. By last year, Cretella's roster of projects totaled eleven, in various stages of progress.
Art Lofts I will have 20 apartments. Originally Cretella proposed adding three stories to the garage, but since then the structure has been leveled for all-new construction.

Walking to the bank last week, I happened upon a rendering in the front window of the Courier News building. Of all Cretella's proposals, this one was perhaps the most exotic - a French bistro right on Park Avenue.Maybe we'll get an update on that one soon.

Let's see - instead of working with this developer who keeps moving tax paying improvement projects forward in downtown Plainfield we will assign a large city-owned space for affordable housing to the HAP that will not be on the tax rolls. Cretella has an very interesting idea for that space that will attract patrons, create jobs and pay taxes but of course he is the wrong color and has a proven development track record so the Council will not want to work with him. Not to mention the fact that he has hung in in Plainfield since he started in the last year of Al McWilliams administration.
ReplyDeleteBy the way - the "Plaido" website you posted a few weeks ago is great. (I belive that is done by Frank Cretella's people). Dan should include that to the list of blogs. For the first time in forever I got excited about what Plainfield can be and how it can appeal to a broad spectrum of people with disposable income.
If only wishes could come true for the town!!!!
DeleteIt's nice to see some projects moving forward, since it seems that some people on the City Council want to see the city fail. Great for Plainfield!
ReplyDeleteWhere is everyone going to park? One of the reasons I do not go downtown is that I can not find a place to park.
ReplyDeleteRe Parking downtown - we are supposed to be able to use the UCIA parking deck off hours, weekends and holidays at the Park Madison development. Still hasn't gone into effect as I believe Bernice reported a few weeks ago...??? OK UCIA - when?
ReplyDeleteJerry Green again gets a pass! They called Gotti the teflon Don, well Green is the teflon Assemblyman.
ReplyDeleteNo UCIA parking which was promised, no PILOT delay which was promised, no reduction of affordable housing which was promised.... you get the idea, and yet no one blames him.
Can't wait to see how he tap dances around St. Peter.
