Jerry's Piety Party

I was surprised this week when Assemblyman Jerry Green deviated from posting canned press releases to reacting to my post on the Union County Improvement Authority. I read it over and even printed it out, but found his post to be such a stew of platitudes and non sequiturs that I just didn't know what to say in response.

Meanwhile, blogger Dan Damon took a try at deciphering it and concluded it was just "Jerryspeak," the assemblyman/head of housing/ party chairman's own argot. Councilwoman Rebecca Williams found it to be "stunningly hypocritical" when she read it, offering seven of her own past posts documenting examples of Green's smarmy tactics.

Perhaps the most puzzling part of Green's post was this:  "If you cannot say anything positive about any elected officials, such as the Mayor, Council members and myself personally, please place that negativity somewhere else, but not in Plainfield. We do not need that here." Could this be the same Jerry Green who condemned Mayor Adrian O. Mapp as "every bit as bad for Plainfield as I feared" even though he supported him in the 2013 primary and general election?

My point about time passing without a complete resolution of the August 2013 UCIA settlement kind of got lost in the rhetoric. "It has taken ten years to get to the point that we are at now with this issue," Green admits. Why so long? According to this 2006 Plaintalker post, the issues date back to 2001. The city finally has a document and a check, but not full compliance with terms of the settlement. Green heads the local Democratic Party and the Regular Democratic Organization of Union County. Surely he could use his power to speed the process. I think it is a fair question to ask why it is not happening.

Recent events have left Green with a public image of his own doing. Browbeating bloggers as negative will not get him the new political clothes he needs for re-election in 2015. I must agree when he says, "We need to hold our community in high regard and not lower it to gutter-style politics." Let's see whether he can live up to his own advice.

  1. This disingenuous appeal for "unity" by Jerry Green just reeks. It sounds like it was forced upon him by others at the county and state levels--we know that he is ultimately controlled by others (as he himself admitted when he said that he was forced by former UC Chair Charlotte DeFillippo to support Mayor Mapp last year).

I guess his lies and silly "cease and desist" letters and yelling at constituents "I Run This..." have embarrassed the state--why would Booker and Watson Coleman want to have that kind of individual representing them as the Democratic standard-bearers for the offices they seek?

Plainfield voters know full well that, next spring, Green will be up to his nasty old tricks. As I noted on my own blog post, folks need to keep in mind who the real Jerry Green is as we move toward Primary 2015--when both his Union County Democratic Chairmanship and his Assembly seat will be up for grabs again.

On my blog post, I also ask this question: where is Jerry Green's public apology to the residents of Plainfield for his continued negativity?

  2. You won't have to wait until Spring for him to be up to his nasty old tricks. He will be right back at it for the BOE election. He desperately wants control of the BOE. Besides that he continues his dirty old tricks through his council surrogates.

  3. First, please let us stop saying that "Jerry wrote on his blog....". We all know Jerry cannot write a simple declarative sentence.

I want to know why the people in this city continue to give him a pass? He did nothing for Liberty Village, did noting with UCIA, sends around racist flyers attaching Black people - why does he still get elected? Did he give that many people jobs and favors? Cause the rest of us want him gone!

  4. Really? Who does he think he’s fooling? Now he has the audacity to try and tell people what to write, think or feel. Now it’s all love and hugs and can’t we all get along! I am LMAO. I hope he had a personal conversation with Rivers, Taylor, Reid and Graves. Rivers wouldn’t know how to be professional if her life depended on it. Ass. Jerry Green needs to remember the First Amendment and respect everyone’s opinion and their freedom of speech. He also needs to tell his little puppets that their behavior in city council meetings are beyond disrespectful and does more harm to Plainfield than any article a blogger can write. Remember the city council meetings are being recorded for the world to see.

Jerry Green Plainfield needs people and leaders that are educated, intelligent, respectful, professional and have a true desire to take us to a level your gangster brain couldn’t even imagine. Plainfield would be a much better place without you and your control!
