Scientist is Parade Grand Marshal

It may well be that Plainfield picked the better day for a parade, if the weather reports are to be trusted. Heavy rain is forecast for Friday, July 4 but the sun will shine on Saturday, July 5 when Plainfield's parade steps off at 10 a.m. on East Front Street.

The Grand Marshal is Dr. James West.

  1. Bernice,

In my previous career in the media industry, I worked as a sound recordist. I also taught Narrative and Location Recording in NYU's Graduate Film School for several years, and always noted the importance of Dr. West's innovation of the electret microphone--I also mentioned that he was/a black inventor. This was actually right BEFORE I moved to Plainfield!

I am glad to see a scientist and academic being honored in Plainfield for his contributions to the modern world. He is truly a role model for our young people.

  2. Many, many years ago, A Science Foundation grant allowed me to conduct a "science program"in Plainfied and Dr. West and other scientists at Murray Hill were so generous as they gave of their time, talents and equipment to the student participants.I can't thank them enough and I will never forget Dr. West and his colleagues. 3. I agree, Rebecca. Glad to see someone who represents smarts and academic ability, rather than someone's friend.
