On the Nov. 4 General Election

The first signs up at Democratic Headquarters were for three school board candidates. Interesting, considering board elections are supposed to be nonpartisan.

The Nov. 4 Democratic roster includes Cory Booker for U.S. Senate, Bonnie Watson Coleman for the 12th Congressional District, Union County candidates for surrogate, sheriff and three freeholder seats, and also three City Council seats. I guess signs will follow.

The state Division of Elections web site is very informative. It is a good resource for voters as well as anyone running a campaign. The Election Information part is fascinating. Candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives are running under 49 slogans, including "Bullying Breaks Hearts," "Politicians Are Crooks" and "We Deserve Better." We have all heard of dark horse candidates, but who knew there is a candidate named Dark Angel running for a seat in the Tenth Congressional District?

One very sad fact was that the voter turnout for the June primary was only 8 percent statewide. In Union County, it was just 11 percent.

The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 4 general election is Tuesday, Oct. 14. City Clerk Abubakar Jalloh has announced special hours:

THE DEADLINE FOR REGISTERING TO VOTE IN THE NOVEMBER 4, 2014 GENERAL ELECTION IS TUESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2014. IN ORDER TO ACCOMMODATE LAST MINUTE REGISTRANTS, THE CITY CLERK’S OFFICE HAS SCHEDULED MORNING AND EVENING VOTER REGISTRATION HOURS FOR OCTOBER 14TH.

ON THAT DAY, THE OFFICE WILL BE OPEN FROM 6:00 AM TO 9:00 PM.

THE CITY CLERK’S OFFICE IS LOCATED ON THE FIRST FLOOR OF CITY HALL, 515 WATCHUNG AVENUE. REGISTRANTS MAY ALSO VISIT THE CITY’S WEBSITE TO DOWNLOAD A VOTER REGISTRATION FORM AT

  1. Did he get a c of o for his headquarters? The Democrats always break the rules by putting to many signs in the window and they litter the streets with political signs. Gerry Green May be a Democrat but he is not Democratic.

  2. Green Machine needs to be stopped. King Green wants to control everything in the city. If he is so great why doesn't he run the drug dealers and gang members out of town. Crime is up under the green machine rule.

    1. To stop the Green Machine we need to stop the political parasites that are willing to promote Green's political agenda at the expense of our city and our children in exchange for their patronage jobs. His school board candidates are bought and paid for. Their only obligation is contracts for his cronies. And all the while claiming they are about the children. The worst opportunists.

    2. Right, one of Green's candidates was already given his county job as well as the boyfriend of another candidate.

    4. Jerry Green is our local assemblyman, who wants to control everything. Go to a City Council meeting and you'll see Rivers, Reid, Taylor, Greaves who are doing his bidding to the detriment of out town and for their own benefit. Jerry gives jobs to those who are willing to be his slaves. Most political "machines" are bad, his is bad for Plainfield.

  3. Jerry Green wants to make the BOE into the spectical that is the city council. Wonderful.

  4. I don't know if I am more disgusted with Jerry for his lack of respect for the people of Plainfield, and his blatant superiority attitude that things don't apply to him, or the stupid people who keep voting him in.

  5. School Board elections non-partisan . Since when in Plaindield. JG has without having any contact supported a slate for years, as has John Campbell. The BOE has been a training ground; ie: for future Council candidates. Their degree of independence versus adherence to the master voice has been the determining factor.

  6. JG is Union County and Plainfield democratic chairman. JC is a resident and local businessman.Your comparison is ridiculous.

    1. John and Wilma Campbells political connections and influence is just as strong in Plainfield as Greens. They are one in the same. Your observation is ridiculous.

  8. The only business Jerry Green has in Plainfield is running it into the ground. He says he the king and runs this town and all I can see downtown is Dollar stores ,mattress on the street, illegals standing on the corner of front st.I think it is time for a change before we wind up being like Trenton.

  9. Every night I look forward to reading your blog and this evening I am going to comment. This particular blog needs EQUAL TIME. You posted (via the photograph) Ass Jerry Green's candidates, but never mentioned the "independent" candidates -RUTHERFORD, JEFFERS, BELLAMY.

    Just asking for equal time.

    Thank you in advance

    1. That post was not about the BOE election specifically. I did post about it here:

I will be posting again on it before Nov. 4.

    2. Rutherford has his own blog, instead of using it to bash Mr Green he can devote all the time he needs to promote the Campbell's republican team.
