News Flash! (Maybe)

As many were looking forward to the return of City Administrator Bibi Taylor following maternity leave, it was a bit of a shock to read this:

"I was notified by the county manager yesterday that the County of Union has decided to hire Bibi Taylor as their new financial director of the finance department of Union County. She will be the first black woman to hold such a position in Union County. So I am hoping that she can move on with her career and the Mayor and Council can find someone else so that we can deal with this year’s budget, because the Mayor and Council are going to have to make some tough decisions."

So wrote Jerry Green today, along with a reminder to me to stop trying to ruin his life, as if a lowly pensioner with a hyperlocal blog can bring down the third-highest ranking person in the Assembly.
Anyway, a call to the Union County Public Information Office did not yield confirmation of Bibi Taylor's hiring, only that she is a "candidate of interest." Guess we have to wait until Union County reads Jerry's Page.

  2. The Mayor wanted Bibi gone and PRESTO! This makes me very suspicious.

  3. Not much of a shock considering her past job-hopping history and the fact that she was fired and was then restored over the objections of her boss. I wouldn't doubt that the new job at Union County was a "settlement" to prevent her from suing Plainfield.

  8. Forgive me, but what policies did Bibi advocate which led to greater efficiency among departments? Please name me 1 or 2 major initiatives that had an impact on fiscal policy i.e. share service agreements, eliminating divisions, etc.

  9. I guess we can all blame the Mayor, blame the Assemblymen, but think about it shouldn't we be blaming the New Dems?

Gasp. . . .why you ask? The New Dems are so busy fighting the Administration that they have forgotten how to govern. It's getting to the point that they fight for the sake of fighting. Enough already. What are they so mad about?

Okay what does this have to do with Bibi. The New Dems 'worked' Bibi to the point that the Mayor couldn't trust her. Bibi may have been a city employee but she works for the Mayor. I don't blame the Mayor for getting rid of her, (and I am not a fan of the Mayor's record so far, and I was a big fan of Bibi's).

It is unfortunate that we find ourselves were we are, without Bibi, without David Brown, and soon to be without a CFO again. All of these situations can be blamed on the New Dems just as much as the Mayor.

How? David Brown's departure = Councils handling of Rec Dept
Bibi Taylor's depature = Council hoodwinked her
CFO pending departure = council takes away purchasing department.

Thanks Adrian, thanks Cory, thanks Rebecca, thanks Annie. Your doing a fine job moving us backwards.

  10. I have to admit that I don't really understand what is going on in Plainfield and Union County Democratic politics, but I believe that Plainfield's loss of Ms. Taylor is a gigantic setback for the city. Despite her obvious support of the administration in city council meetings, she has continuously demonstrated that she is a competent and conscientious city manager, who was trying to do the right thing. It was no doubt difficult to balance the two, and she did it in admirable manner. The tragic aspect of her "promotion" is that, depending on her replacement, Plainfield is likely to suffer greatly without her. Obviously this is up to Her Honor the Mayor and string-puller Assm. Green.
