A Wrong Ringy-Dingy from JG

So today I get a phone call from Assemblyman/Plainfield Democratic Party Chairman/Union County Democratic Party Chairman Jerry Green complaining that I said he only has two supporters for his City Council slate, Sharon Robinson-Briggs and Mustapha Muhammad. He wants me to put on my blog that his City Council slate is endorsed by Senator Steve Sweeney. I express doubt that the Senate President is tracking local races in 566 municipalities, but meanwhile I am racking my brain to know what he is talking about.

Green goes on to hassle me some more and then starts getting into my personal life, asking about my marital history (I am divorced) and suggesting, "Why don't you get a young buck?" among other comments.

I suspect he is just goofing on me for the benefit of others in the room from which he is calling and tell him so. It reminds me of the kind of sexist comments women face on the street from males who have not yet left the 20th Century.

I am mystified by this entire call, starting with the reason for it and ending with the weird foray into my business. Later, someone tells me that it was Dan Damon who posted about support for the local slates on his blog. The only thing Dan and I have in common is that we are both Caucasian and both bloggers. So Jerry had someone in his office call me and ask whether I would speak to the Assemblyman, presumably also in his office, on the wrong premise! It was not my blog at all, but because the Assemblyman does not go online, he didn't know the difference. How such an important person had time to delve into the personal life of a female elder is another mystery.

I had stopped talking to Jerry in 2008 after he tried to rope me in to some attack he wanted to make on a school board member. Recently, I have had some calls from his office and have answered them. But after this, I think I am done once more with "official" phone calls from Assemblyman Jerry Green.

  1. Digusting. I can only hope his fear of losing power is real. Clearly, that's why he called you. He's afraid of the primary. His language is from another era. Sexist for sure.

  2. Bernice - Good for you that you are posting comments about this conversation. What a thin skinned fool Ass. Green continues to show himself to be.

As for his comment about Senator Steve Sweeney supporting his slate - the proof of that is in todays mail. The piece is "Paid for by Jerry Green for Assembly" - which means his slate either has no money or he is feeling like he has to support them from his own campaign funds because they are feeling like they are losing. The piece has some hysterically amazing comments on one side that basically accuse the New Dems of doing what Jerry has been doing in Plainfield for 25 years - even goes so far as the pin Liberty Village on Rebecca and the New Dems. That from the guy who is "head of housing". It is really the most outlandish, and I will add amateurish, political mailing I have probably ever seen. The second side has a picture of Sweeney along with a letter stating his support for the fabulous and amazing Jerry Green (Sweeney apparently doesn't spend much time with Jerry) and castigating New Dems for attacking Regular Democrats.

I am glad that Sweeney put his name and face on this piece - I know he is salivating to be the next Governor and now I have one less decision to make in three years for that race. To lend his name to such garbage is the sign of a guy that isn't honest enough to be Governor.

The New Dems aren't perfect but they aren't at all what this mailing portrays them to be. In fact, Jerry Green and his minions are the bad apples in this town - unfortunately they are taking the Regular Dems down with them and Sweeney has to lend his signature (to a letter Jerry's people wrote) to help his inept friend out.

More motivation to vote for LINE E on June 3rd and against Jerry Green next year.

Enough is enough already. Jerry, the clock is ticking towards your retirement.

  3. I would like to first thank Sweeney for putting the truth out there in the reference to the New Dems/Tea Party republicans. I will support him whole heartily as Governor. Tuesday can not get here quick eneough

    1. Hi Jerry - good of you (or your staff) to post here. I think you are getting a little senile as New Dems are about as far from being tea party people as you are from reality. Get ready for retirement - a year and a half comes quickly.

    2. Hilarious, Jerry's boy. But I guess any constituent stupid enough to vote against the Plainfield New Dems thinking they're Tea Partiers, or for that matter stupid enough to vote for anyone recommended by Jerry, is stupid enough to be swayed by Steve Sweeney, someone whose name recognition must be close to zero in the black community but for whom Jerry seems to be holding an early man crush for governor, which must mean he's going to lose for sure.

    3. Anon 4:10 - great post and so right. Love the man crush line. Good stuff.

  4. Sweeney is one of the most respected high ranked Democrates in the Country, because he agrees with the majority of the people in plfd. who are to lazy to vote, he is now not worthy of votes,oh please.Mapp is a one term mayor green and the people who did not vote are responsible for this man being mayor.Mapp got 70% of how many votes.Heard Alan went to Green's office Acted like an idiot on orders from mapp and was escorted out by the police.I guess all the BRAIN WASHED mapp followers think that was appropriate.Alan needs to get a life, he does not make a difference in anything just hot air.It was wrong what Jerry said to you Bernice, but it is wrong when you print Ass. Jerry, that is not how you abbreviate assemblyman. When someone calls Alan a suck up you are fast to defend.

    1. Please excuse me for saying this, but it would help if you put in punctuation so that it would be easier to read, and make more sense.

Bernice, sorry you had to endure a conversation from Jerry. Having a root canal would be my preference.

    2. Well you heard wrong. I did go to his office of my own choice, said my piece in about a minute, and left, with Jerry tooting a misogynistic remark. You are so full of it, you just might be be Jerry himself.

    3. Sweeney is high ranking for sure. As for most respected I am not sure how that is quantified. I can say that when he lends his name to a letter that implies Jerry has done good things for Plainfield I find his support empty. He obviously has no idea what has gone on in Plainfield the last 10 years. Mapp won 70% of the vote in Nov. The number of votes is irrelevant but it wasn't a bad turnout for an off year election. And by they way Ass. Green was a supporter of his.

By the way don't blame Bernice for people using Ass. Green - she doesn't type the comments, the readers do.

    4. Anon 3:53. Your comments are phrased in such a way that you sound like an aide to Ass. Green. Please go back to work. This is not what you are paid by the public to do.

    5. Your ranting sounds really immature and too silly to be taken seriously. Visually speaking, the emotional content of this piece of work makes me think that you have had your 7th martini for the evening..

  5. I want to hear Alan's side of the story of his visit to Jerry's office--I was told he just walked out o his own volition.

    And--Anon 3:53--I suggest a remedial English course.

  6. Soooooooooooo... Jerry is foul mouthed, racist, AND a misogynist ... awesome... Surely a man who is fit to represent people in State Office.. ASS Green indeed.

  7. Rob if anyone is racist it is you and your friends, you have such hatred for this black man with power and influence that it drives you people crazy, just like how Obama drives the republicans crazy.

    2. I would venture to guess that there are very few people in plainfield (as a % of residents) and even fewer that comment on this blog regularly that give a damn about a black man having power. I would go so far as to say the the vast majority of people in the city and on this blog have voted for multiple black candidates, including the ultimate "black man with power" President Obama. So that being said, I would take your weak attempt at playing the race card and put away. The issue with Green is that he has done nothing of significance with his power in the 25 years (TWENTY FIVE YEARS!) in local and state politics and he makes a regular habit of abusing his power for personal gain. That kind of man (black, white, red, green or purple) should not be in office. So go back to Jerry and get your high five for playing the race game and then think about how ineffective a leader he is and how he hasn't done a damn thing for the people of plainfield and especially not for the African American residents of Plainfield. A little honest soul searching isn't a bad thing.

    3. Anon 11:34 - well said. Goes easy though - the poster was honors english not honors hebrew.

Maybe Anon 12:25 should sit down and make a list of all the wonderful things that Ass. Green has done for Plainfield in his 25 years of public service - if he/she can't come up with at least 20 things of significance (I am being generous as it should be well over that after 25 years) then he/she may want to rethink the devotion to such an ineffective public official.

By the way - if ANY of those 20 things on the list resulted in personal gain for Ass. Green or one of his cronies, it is void. Good luck with that.

  9. Either you didn't learn much in "Honors English" or you don't bother to use what you learned when you're in a hurry. Does all criticism come from "elitist donkeys"? Ridiculous!

  10. "Elitist donkey". Interesting choice of words, new to me. Is it a play on the Ass. abbreviation (which actually would be pretty funny)? Or just a common racist anthropomorphism that I'm not familiar with 'cause I don't hang in the right places? I'm going with the later. Either way it doesn't really matter. I'm so tired of living in a place where I'm belittled in public because of what people think the color of my skin represents; where the least educated segment of the population decide elections; where the chief elder is a woman-hating, gay-baiting, under-educated bully, liar and thief. He wants to be known as the guy who controls a town where the schools rank in the bottom 7% of the entire state? Where picking up the garbage is a decades-long political football? Where it takes umpteen "special" meetings to get any kind of action on each and every little issue? Well, mazel tov; it's his. And let no one forget it.
