NAACP Holding City Council Candidates' Forum

Please note, I was not informed of this meeting by the NAACP, someone wrote to tell me it was happening.. I checked the NAACP web site.and found the image below.
NAACP President Peter Briggs has now informed me that he received a letter from the New Democrats saying they will not take part due to prior  commitments.

Do the above names suggest that the sponsor and site of the debate might not be neutral?

    1. Yes you are soooo correct, sometimes comments are not worth responding to but at times something needs to be said. How is a site not neutral, The Elks? The NAACP has hosted a candidates forum (not a debate) for many years, even when the past mayor was a candidate and a member of our organization. By all means, comment on me personally, critique my organization of the forum, comment on MY personal agenda but do not confuse Peter with the NAACP. You are welcome to comment about individuals not being neutral, but do not use the term sponsor (since the NAACP is the sponsor) and slander the name of a GREAT organization that has worked for the benefit of all for over 100 years.

Lastly, yes, this information was taken from a program journal for an awards ceremony celebrating our middle school overachievers, and you chose to only take the portion of the program that you deemed important. Why use our youth to add to your political agenda? A program that has supported our youth for fourteen years....just type and send without thought....humm.

    2. Just a lot of nonsense Peter. Look at the chapter's Facebook page and see for yourself. You are using the good name of the NAACP for purely local partisan purposes-

    3. Between my previous post and now Mr.Briggs has altered the Facebook page and eliminated such commentary as "COLUMN A IS THE COLUMN OF THE DEMOCRATS OF PLAINFIELD!!!!" and "Regular -Democratic Party Unite (sic) with Bonnie Watson in Plainfield", along with numerous pictures of Eke, Toliver, and Taylor. You can no longer see photos showing how they herded members of the Senior Center into their political web as well.

It was much like the Plainfield Chamber of Commerce website, whose homepage is used as an advertisement for the Incubator and Legal Shield.

It was indicative of the kind of abuse of office that brings us such wonderments as illegal PMUA commissioner compensation and letting profiteers rifle Stimulus money through an illegal and unvetted job-training program.

It was a good bait and switch, essentially re-tweeting to cover your steps and deflect from scrutiny. Voters beware. The Regular Democrats are highly irregular. Their slate of Council candidates are out to get you, your money, and the future of this city.

  3. Bernice,

When we received notification of this, we sent our regrets because we have several community meetings and events which cannot be broken. I sent our response to his home, to the 4th Ward address on the flier, and to his personal email as well as to the organization's email. I just want to make sure that folks know that Emmett, Charles, and I will not be in attendance because of our prior community commitments.

  4. Why would you have the debate on the community yard sale day? Why did the NAACP only invite the democrats?

    1. We prepare our schedule a for the upcoming year in November of the previous year. The forum is always held on our meeting Sunday before the election. We moved our May meeting from the 4th Sunday to the 3rd Sunday because of the Memorial Day Holiday.

We only invited the democrats because there was not a contested election for the Republicans, on October 26 the republicans, democrats and any independents will be invited to participate.

  5. So if you knew last year when the forum was going to be, why did you not send it out March/April when the candidates first declared? Or did you?

    1. Good Afternoon.

The location of the forum is always an issue, because it is a Sunday afternoon many venues are unavailable to us. For many years we held the event in the community room at the Whitney Allen Young complex. As can be attested to many times the small room proved to be a challenge to get the many candidates and the audience in, especially when there are many school board candidates. We sent the notices as soon as we got confirmation from the Elks. This year was further complicated by the challenges to the petitions that were filed.
